The Nursing Need theory emphasizes human needs as the primary objective of the nursing practice and elaborates how nursing can be used to satisfy these needs. Henderson’s theory contains three assumptions including the assumption that “nurses care for a patient until a patient can care for him or herself”, that “nurses should be educated at the college level in both sciences and arts” and that nurses are dedicate to the service accorded to patients and that “nurses will devote themselves to the patient day and night”. The Nursing need theory focuses on four key aspects including nursing, health, the environment and the individual (Ahtisham & Jacoline, 2015). In this regard, Henderson’s model of nursing states that people have basic needs that are health-related.

For instance, individuals may need the help of nursing practitioners to attain full health, or have to be assisted to cope with loss of life affecting their loved ones. Counselling and providing the patient with hope and comfort , and providing compassionate care, are all part of the implementation of this theory as laid out in the 14 focus points that act as targets for the nurse in providing care to the patient. These components cover a variety of important factors that are determinant to the patient’s health including the social, spiritual, psychological and physiological aspects. According to Henderson, therefore, the duty of nurses is to evaluate the condition of the client and help him or her improve in wellbeing though self-care.

The Nursing Needs theory thus fits the nursing practice because it encourages a holistic approach toward patient care and recognizes the need for the patient to be able to independently promote their own recovery through self-care after being released from the hospital setting. B. Her emphasis on helping victims of war and natural disasters influenced the whole world to pay more attention to humanitarian assistance including the tracing of lost persons. Unlike Nightingale’s contributions which mainly included changes in the hospital setting, Barton influenced nursing mostly though her position in the American Red Cross. The strategies and concepts introduced by both figures have motivated and directed me to be compassionate and focused on the health needs of the patient when administering care.

C. The State Board of Nursing is a government is a government agency whose duty is to regulate nursing in individual states (Xue et al. The American Nursing Association represents the wishes of nurses to Congress among other regulatory agencies affecting nurses. In both New York and Arizona, my nursing licenses are renewed biennially for me to be allowed to practice as an RN. Before renewing the license, a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education credits have to be covered. The 30 hours of continuing education include time split to cover certain subjects including HIV/Aids and child abuse. A charge of $ 75 and online application have to be completed. E. The purpose of New York’s Nurse Practice Act is to define the responsibilities and rights of nursing practitioners.

The Scope of practice for RNs in the state includes the liberty to work independently in the provision of care in such contexts as care supportive of life and wellbeing, care restorative of life and wellbeing, health counseling (Xue et al. Health teaching and case finding. The scope of RNs and Licensed Practical Nurses are not interchangeable. H. Some of the leadership characteristics ideal for nursing include critical thinking ,integrity, emotional intelligence emotional intelligence and dedication to excellence (Grossman & Valiga, 2016).  The nurse administering care at the bedside is thus expected to show empathy and compassion while caring for the patient while being a good listener who can identify and help meet the health needs of the patient. Also, the nurse as a leader in an interdisciplinary team is expected to plan correctly regarding the use of critical thinking skills and use emotional intelligence to motivate and resolve conflicts effectively when dealing with other health workers.
