Palestinian Conflict essay

Event with little or no impact to us are the ones we tend to forget almost in an instant and we focus on other things which we deem more important. One question we need to ask ourselves is how we get to know about these events within a very short period of time when we are located in different parts of this earth separated by large water masses of seas and oceans, with great mountains lying in between, deep valleys among other many physical phenomena. For example, consider the recent attacks that occurred in the United Kingdom in what was popularly referred to as the London Bridge Attack where several people lost their lives and several others were injured in the terror attacks.

My focus here, however, is not on the terror attacks or the details of the attack but rather how people from different parts of the world would receive the news even as the attack was ongoing. People were exchanging information about the incident even before the police had rescued the innocent citizens. In 1948, more than 700,000 Palestinians were displaced by force during the Israeli establishment and this has continued up to date. These events have been popularly known as Nakba which is the Arabic word for catastrophe. This displacement led to a refugee crisis that remains unresolved up to date and it has been a very big challenge in resolving the conflict in the onion peace negotiations (Harms & Todd 56). However, these two parties have different opinions on how the Palestinian refugee crisis came into existence.

The Palestinians view it as a campaign by the Jews to cleanse the Palestine of Arabs ethnically which was planned for years before the crisis while the Israeli argue that it was as a result of the Arab’s fleeing out of their own will and unfortunate accidents during wartimes. The reason given by the media company for the fight over Gaza can be traced back to several decades ago were after the World War 2 and also the Holocaust which saw the death of six million Jews, the Jews started demanding for their own country. As a result, they ended up being given a large part of Palestine because they considered it to be their traditional and original home. However, there were Arabs who already lived in the area and together with those in the neighboring Arab countries saw it be unfair for their country to be given out and they refused to have the new country.

By the end of the 1948 war between the Arabs and the Palestinians, Gaza was under the control of Egypt while the West Bank which is also another land which is conflicted for by the two sides was controlled by Jordan. These two areas were highly inhabited by thousands of Palestinians who had immigrated from the so-called the new Jewish home, Israel (Harms & Todd 98). Power cuts are a common scenario in this area and the foods the people eat are not of the recommended quantity as aid agencies report that meat, fresh vegetables, and fruits are not being eaten as they used to be in the past. Unemployment rates in this area are very high mainly because businesses are few and they also manage to get a few products out of the area for sale in different places and the people here also do not have a high purchasing power and they mostly depend on help from the United Nations.

There is a lot of violence in the Gaza strip and it’s ridiculous to imagine how the Palestinians do not have an army but cases of rockets being fired from Gaza into Israel are very common in the news headlines. These put the lives of the Israelis living new the border at risk and they have to develop means of surviving with these rockets. Israel has regularly been sending its troops to Gaza in an attempt to put a stop into the rocket fire and during all these attempts, people have lost their lives, both civilians, and soldiers, Israelis and Palestinians. Israeli air attacks also targeted a number of residential and government-owned buildings during the attack such as the Aqsa television channels offices.

The then Israel’s defense minister resigned in protest after Egypt brokered a ceasefire and this was taken as a political victory for Gaza by the Hamas. The news reported by Aljazeera and BBC have some similarities in that they tend to point to us that there is still much to be done if an agreement is to be reached for peace between Israeli and Palestine. The propaganda model was developed by Noam Chomsky with the aim of explaining how news media behave and operate in a capitalist economy. It suggests that the news produced by news outlets are always in line with the interests of the economic and political elites in the society. International communications are almost a must for the smooth living in this world because they inform us of what is happening in different places and how it concerns us so that we can adapt our living to fit such occurrences.
