When doing the stakeholder analysis, the identification of the stakeholders is the first thing which the manager needs to do. There is a need to think of all people who will be in one way or the other be affected by the project, the people who have power over the project and those who are interested in it. these people include senior executives, co-workers, customers among others. They can also be organizations but the baseline is that communication must be there between the manager and the stakeholders. The other thing that is necessary for stakeholder analysis is that there is a need to prioritize the stakeholders. Competitors are also part of the external factors in the organization and the manager should always keep an eye on the competitors so that one can be able to gain a greater market share and maintain the competitive levels of the organization if it was above all the others. Have a look at the pricing, the services, and products your competitor offers so as to evaluate how competitive your organization is. Compare the competitive ability of your organization to that of the competitors by having a look at the strengths and weaknesses of the competitors. Information about their relationships with the target market they have can be sourced from their websites and social media pages and the image they portray to their customers can be obtained by reviewing the competitors’ marketing efforts.

The use of this tool is usually to determine how attractive an industry is but the analysis will also provide a starting point where strategy can be formulated and also provides an understanding of the competitive landscape in which the company operates. The competitive forces involved in the framework for the five forces include industrial rivalry, the threat of substitutes, the bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of suppliers and barriers to entry. The industrial rivalry describes the extent of competition the existing firms offer to your firm and when the competition is stiff, companies in the same industry will experience reduced profit potential. The threats of substitutes refer to the availability of products and services which can replace the original product produced by your organization.

When substitutes are available in plenty, increasing prices of the commodities becomes a challenge because when the prices are increased, people will turn to the substitutes. One has to understand where the competitive forces originate from within the industry and then develop a competitive strategy for it is much easier to deal with competitive forces originating from within the organization than those which are external. It is clear that from the five competitive forces that competition goes beyond current competitors and all these forces work jointly to determine the industries competitive strength and its profitability. The company should, therefore, focus on the strongest of the forces for any industry analysis and the resulting competitive strategy. This will enable it to realize improvements depending on the problem they were trying to address and resources are also used effectively through this.
