Introduction Mental health illness possesses a critical burden to the society. Just like physical illness, it can take many forms and impairs effective function and contribution to the growth and development of the society. It is alarming that response to mental health disorders is below expectations (WHO, 2018). This essay aims to bring into focus the need to necessary strategies to address mental health in the society. It will analyze two movies: “Rain Man” and “A Beautiful Mind” with an aim of creating and promoting awareness, acceptance of mental disorder and effective treatment of mental health disorders. Not long after, developing the game theory, he falls in love with one of the students Alicia. Shortly after his appointment to teach at MIT, he is recruited by Parcher to join Pentagon to decrypt Russian coded communication shortly in the process he is engaged in gunfight and persecution.

This is another creation of his mind. As the movie progresses, a medical practitioner Dr. Rosen captures Nash, diagnosis him with schizophrenia and puts him under medication. He starts to find jokes funny, loves to dance and expresses emotional appreciation of his brother by calling him “my main man’. His brother and the attorney make all major decisions for him. Description of the Character: John Nash John is an intelligent man with a wonderful brain but little in term of emotional feelings. He has a quirky, antisocial personality and cannot communicate socially. As an eccentric genius, he develops to develop a useful economic theory game theory and gets an award for it. Raymond inability to adapt to change such as boarding the airplane makes his behavior to be classified as dysfunction.

Apart from the physical attack to his wife, there was no evident psychological dysfunction that can lead to his behavior classified as a danger (Zorumski & Rubin, 2010). Raymond poor judgment to take the steering wheel while his brother was driving were the few instances hence he posed a danger to himself to other. There was no pattern of dangerous behavior between the two key characters. Diagnose the disorder based on DSM -5 For autism, the DSM-V Disorder individual should exhibit the following: 1. Unlike Raymond who is diagnosed from a young child age, Nash paranoid schizophrenia condition manifested its self at early adult age when he joined Princeton. Based on the fact that almost half of the things that occur in the film are an illusion on Nash’s mind.

The split reality, disillusioned perceptions, and hallucinations are common in elevated schizophrenia (Frese, 2016). According to the DSM, the following is the diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia 1. Hallucinations, visual and auditoria 2. Describe how the disorder was treated (if, in fact, it was treated). Nash received antipsychotic medication and administered with insulin shock therapy for ten weeks. The medication reduced the effects of the condition but it has side effects (Frese, 2016). Realizing his own hallucinations, He voluntarily agrees to go back to the hospital receives therapy. He has the resolve and ability of executive decision functioning, unlike Raymond who was passive in decision making. Therefore creating awareness and normalizing these medical conditions. In conclusion, as highlighted by the role of Alicia and Charlie, Mental illness are a burden to the society.
