There are many reasons that would make somebody prefer to adopt an animal rather than breeding or buying. Some of these reasons include; adopting an animal is much less expensive than buying, when somebody adopts an animal, he or she saves a life, many of the adopted animals are housetrained, adoption of animals also help the shelters to take good care for the other animals whom they would be left with, animals purchased from a pet store are not known, also adopting animals is one of the best ways of fighting with puppy mill and lastly adopting an animal gives a good chance to someone to choose a pet of any age. Animal adoption help to create space in the rescue organizations and the shelters, which is used to cater to other animals that could be suffering and thus saving their lives.

When someone adopts an animal, the price of adoption also includes the cost of first vaccinations, and this would save the person adopting the animal some unnecessary charges. Also, depending on the kind of an animal adopted, someone is likely to save on the expenses of training the animal if the animal is an adult and had already been trained. Many of the animals in the shelters found themselves there because their owners could not take good care of them (Troughton and Bert 275). Domestic problems like financial crisis, divorce, and failure to get veterinary care for the animals could lead to people abandoning their pets, which could force the pets to get into the shelters or rescue organizations. When these animals move into the shelters especially when they are older, they are already housetrained and socialized, which makes it easier for the people who adopt them because they don’t incur other extra charges of training the animals (Favre and David 89).

Also, animals that are adopted from shelters are always healthier than those animals which could be bought elsewhere. Many shelters have veterinary clinics that cater to any medical problem that could affect the animals within the shelters. The puppy mills continue to thrive in breeding business through dishonest tactics, working with unsuspecting customers who purchase pets from their shops. When people will stop buying pets from these pet stores and start adopting pets from the shelters, they will have helped to diminish the operations of the puppy mills something that will help to prevent the animals that are kept in the puppy mills from the troubles that they pass through when they are in the puppy mills (Troughton and Bert 279). Through adoption, a person is likely to get an animal of any age depending on his or her age something that could not be easy if they could have decided to buy from the pet stores.
