Sistine Chapel Analysis

The main purpose of building the Sistine Chapel was for the building to serve as a gathering place for Catholic cardinals to elect a new pope, the same purpose for which the building is even in present. For example, in the scene where he shows the image of God creating Adam, Michelangelo used white clouds to associate the image of God with light and his use of dark and dull colors in the areas where he refers to darkness and the moon shows how he used the light to show different themes in the paintings. Light is very important in the Sistine Chapel ceiling, being an indoor work of art since it makes the intension of the artist clearer and his images more elaborate.

The Sistine Chapel’s work being an indoor work made the element of color an important tool for the work of art and Michelangelo only proves the importance of light to his work by creating a clear and well lit piece of Mood, tone and emotion Michelangelo was a staunch Christian and he often worked for the church. He was catholic and his contribution to the Catholic Church was immense. The significance of the painting of the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling to art are numerous. First the painting act as motivation to many modern day artist who would like to exploit great milestones in history for it provide one of the milestones of art. The piece of art communicates the essence of art to many upcoming artist and give the motivation and belief that art can also be a reason for greatness, and a center of focus just like political power and wealth.

Michelangelo, was only a simple sculpture artist before the painting of the Sistine Chapel, however, after his work, Michelangelo became a center of focus for many scholars and institutions as well as organizations have come up with different biographies of the work of Michelangelo, owing to his success in creating the beautiful work in the Sistine Chapel. The painting of the Sistine Chapel made Michelangelo compare historically to Roman Emperors and rulers and one without clear knowledge of the work of Michelangelo would mistake him for a leader of the renaissance. it may be a depiction of God’s industry in creating man, His most valued creation. The figures surrounding God are also of great interest. One possibility may be that they are God’s angels depicted standing next to him as He is carrying out his work.
