The Relationship between China and US

These two countries are well known for their extensive business partnerships as well as large amounts of trade between them hence making it necessary to have good political relations between the two counties. However, the relationship between China and US has faced significant problems. In this text, I will use two examples to explain why the relationship between these two countries has changed. The first internal cause of the change in US-china relationship is the Tiananmen Square incident that took place in 1989. One of the leaders of the Chinese communist party Hu Yaobang passed on and students gathered at Tiananmen Square in Beijing the capital of China, to commemorate him and to speak out their dissatisfaction with the china’s authoritative communist government.

However, China found America to be more friendly as compared to other countries as the US protected China from the pressures of the Soviet and thus the Tiananmen square issues are what really caused the change of the relationship between China and United States of America. The second example that changed the relationship between the united states and the People's Republic of China is the issue of the south china sea dispute. This was the issue of a territorial dispute over a waterway that was very busy. Many goods being imported and exported passed through the south china sea and it was also known for its fish trade as the sea was enriched with marine life. Despite the marine life, the sea was also endowed with natural resources that include barrels of oil and natural gas as well.

The united stated is involved with this overlap of the south china sea because more than a trillion of its goods pass through this particular sea every year and therefore they do not want it to be controlled by China but rather be an international waterway. The other reason as to why the United States of America has a keen interest on the south china sea is that it has a close proximity to the Philippines whereby Washington can have a close eye on chinas developments. This has brought about a strain in the relationship between China and the united states due to their different interests in the south china sea. Aside from that, the south china sea dispute has also caused a lot of confrontations between the involved countries.

The Philippines went as far as the court to challenge the reconstruction of the seven islands by China which the court ruled against China arguing that China cannot claim a sea area that is beyond the 370 kilometres from its shores meaning that China has oversized its maritime territory which is illegal. China gave subsidies to manufacturers to produce the papers at a very low price then exported them to the united states. On the other hand, the Chinese government has been spending heavily on the military army which is seen as a threat by the US military. This is also a contribution to the change in the relationship between China and the united states. China has made significant improvements in several areas.
