Values and beliefs of Nurses
The comprehensive evaluation of the origin, nature, and implication of these beliefs should define a holistic approach that leads to maximum satisfaction derived by the patients. Nurses are obligated with clinical tasks and their main duty is to duty is to take good care of their patients. Nurses’ activities should be embedded with the nursing strategies and effectively demonstrate contemporary ethical issues. In addition, these values exhibit the essentialism of life and its priorities therefore humanistic nursing practices are appropriate. The awareness of these values promotes international understanding among nurses. In addition, most nursing practitioners rely on professional and philosophical experience as opposed to personal factors. It is however noted that there is no harm in sharing personal influences in a healthcare setting (149). These nurses are therefore portrayed as potentially biased.
In addition, the safety of the nurses especially with unregulated products is also an influential component in determination of the correct dosage for patients. For instance, a nurse handling transfusion of blood of a HIV positive person can make rush decisions for the patient for fear of being infected. Severely injured patients are sometimes left do die. Prescribing to the realms of ethicality, I would administer first aid to the patient even if it means me losing my job with the hospital. Thirdly, altruism is also a key nursing practice. It advocates that nurses should exhibit selflessness and consideration in the provision of healthcare for the utmost welfare of their patients. For instance, when I have a patient that needs extra attention but my official working hours are over, I can choose to stay overnight and devote my time for his/ her well- being.
A genuine nursing framework creates interpersonal relationship between the nurses and their patients (Rest & Narvaez 60). In most clinical experiences, the integration of these practices plays an important role in the nursing world. Secondly, nurses are obligated to moral reasoning and making of comprehensive judgment about various medical solutions and come up with a holistic solution. The course of action taken should have moral foundation and embedded with ethical principles to achieve social justice. The reasoning should emphasize on the contextual consideration that will lead to humane outcomes. I would be more enthusiastic to work if my ethical decision making as a leader puts a smile on the face of all the stakeholders. For instance, advising the relatives of the patients not to take them out of life- support while am totally convinced that they would not come out the coma is morally questionable since my aim would be to make more money for the hospital.
Furthermore, in position of leadership, ethical nursing practices inspire my subordinates and entirety of this kind of climate creates career satisfaction. On the contrary, I have the tendency to dismiss the opinions of my juniors and this may lead to inaccurate judgment of a clinical situation and kill the spirit of teamwork. Also, I may not disclose the medical issues of my clients to my colleagues but will always have a burning urge to tell them to my wife when I reach at home since I know that the patient will never find out.
