The American with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination in the following primary areas; job, public accommodations, telecommunications, and local and state government services as well as public transportation (WebMD, LLC. The state laws also protect these individuals against deprivation of mental health care and civil liberties like voting. The Mental Health Act protects the rights of mental patients and this includes confidentiality, privacy, along with other human rights. It would be wrong to deny these patients their civil rights on the basis of their mental conditions. For most people, managing money is a challenging task. Educating them about their rights is important in the fight against discrimination. The patients should understand that they can make decisions regarding treatment plans and contribute directly to the entire process (Videbeck, 2013).
