Van der Merwe was a symbolic representation of the white South Africans of the Dutch origin. The third meaningful section of this film entails the relocation of the aliens by signing the consent form by Van der Merwe. This is demonstrated by the relocation of Dutch in District 6 in Cape Town than led to the acquisition of resources such as land, houses, and businesses which enabled white South Africans to accumulate wealth compared to local South Africans. As a result, this brought the apartheid system that facilitated racial segregation in South Africa. Also, the relocation of aliens as led by Van der Merwe through the signing of the consent form that led to his plight showed how local Africans suffered from the hands of the whites in South Africa as they pushed for reforms for equal access of resources and opportunities for both the whites and blacks in South Africa (Rieder 45).
