What do we know: i. Animals are used to test the effects of cosmetic products for them to be administered to human beings. ii. Cosmetics are administered to rabbit’s eyes to determine toxicity and tissue damage. iii. In the United States animal tests are not banned. ix. The Federal Drug Administration does not allow animals to be tested for the safety of cosmetics. x. The effectiveness of pharmaceuticals and medical processes are first tested on animals. The animal tests on pharmaceutical and medical processes are not used for commercial purposes in most cases. xvi. After conducting the tests on animals, they are successful implemented on human beings. xvii. I know that tests administered to the animals are dangerous to their health.
Determine the principles involved. a. Ethical egotism-The best option is to administer the tests to the animals for protection of the lives of premature babies along with the health of human beings. The animals will recover from tests that will be conducted. The option should not be based on the effects of the tests on animals’ health. List of alternative solutions. a. Look for alternative approaches on administration of cosmetics, pharmaceutical and medical processes such as plastic simulators. b. Administer the tests to human objects rather than animals. b. Administer the tests to human objects rather than animals. Utilitarianism. The choice is not appropriate as the lives of human beings will be endangered. It does not protect the primary motive of carrying out tests.
