As such, most of the researches that have been done have focused on the effects of caffeine in exercise and performance although recently, various studies have started focusing on coffee's impact to the exercise and performance in an individual. Caffeine is assumed to be a substance that improves one's ability to do particular work or exercise. Research studies have indicated that coffee can increase the performance of physical activities during both high-intensity and endurance exercise activities. Thus, in endurance exercises such as cycling, running, and rowing, research has shown that caffeine can help improve time-trial performance and also, reduce muscle pain (Chu, 2012). Additionally, studies have shown that caffeine helps to a greater extent during short-term and high-intensity exercises such as anaerobic activities which involve the performance of team sports and high-intensity activities.

The findings will, therefore, be useful to students who may at one point of their studies need referencing materials for their research studies. Research Strategy and Study Selection Process Having discussed with my supervisor, we decided to use only peer-reviewed journals for this study. This is because peer-reviewed journals are authentic sources of information which have been critically analyzed by various scholars and proved to be effective and efficient for the purpose of doing other research. Journals contain reliable information which has been supported by various scientific experiments and logical reasoning, thus being the preferred sources for this research. Other than the journals, this research utilized books which have relevant information that could support this research. According to this research, caffeine is commonly found in coffee, soda, tea, and other energy drinks and thus, was relevant to this research since it discovered that coffee is one of the substances that contain caffeine and which is the topic of investigation.

This research states that the ability of coffee to boost exercise and performance levels among users was a study which was first done in the 1900s, with early researches indicating that coffee has a beneficial impact on the exercise and performance of athletes (Astorino and Roberson, 2010). Therefore, the continued intake of coffee makes the caffeine element to boost endurance performance. However, the study noted that the effectiveness of coffee intake for short-term high-intensity exercise was inconsistent from one user to another. This inconsistency according to the study, was because of the different exercise protocols which athletes adopt, one's training status, and the intake of coffee behavior by athletes (Astorino and Roberson, 2010). and Lewis. According to the research by Higgins, Straight and Lewis, they discovered that some athletes do use caffeine to enhance their exercise and performance.

As such, athletes occasionally ingest caffeine into their body systems to boost their training levels and exercise performance (Higgins, Straight, and Lewis, 2016). Their research notes that the coffee is the most commonly used source of caffeine which is an energy drink athletes take prior to undertaking any exercise activity. Because of the contradicting research on whether or not coffee boosts the exercise and performance levels among athletes, this research by Higgins, Straight, and Lewis was guided by three underlying objectives. E. , Roelofs, E. J. , Hirsch, K. R. Coffee has major impacts on the pre and post exercise and performance on the muscles of an athlete. For instance, an athlete who takes a cup of coffee just before embarking on a particular exercise showed high levels of exercise performance while taking coffee after the workouts were found to be effective in reducing the muscle pain occasioned by the strenuous exercise activities (Richardson and Clarke, 2016).

Secondly, the substance improves the concentration levels during exercise and performance. Taking a cup of coffee before engaging in any exercise activity helps in boosting the concentration levels, enabling the user to carry out his or her workouts for a long time without getting distracted (Tallis, Duncan, and James, 2015). Thus, coffee improves concentration levels during exercise and performance. First, the studies provided uniform beneficial effects of coffee on exercise and performance. This made the research work easy, effective and efficient. Additionally, the studies majorly focused on the impacts of caffeine on exercise and performance, a substance that is found in coffee, thus helping in making valid findings on the beneficial effects of coffee on exercise and performance. Furthermore, in assessing the effects of coffee on exercise and performance, the studies used both athletes and non-athletes and also, the studies used participants who had at no point used coffee as an enhancer in exercise and performance.
