Raul Castro has continued enforcing great economic policies and lifted movement limitation; decisions that assist the state powerfully grow its international rank and give solutions to some of its domestic alterations. This strained relationship between Cuba and U. S was founded in political and economic sectors happening amidst the cold war in the 1960s. Fidel Castro’s group in 1959 led the overthrowing of the government of Fulgencio Batista, the then president. The new Cuban era started creating trade contracts with the Soviet Union causing the nationalization of the U. The leadership of Bush greatly enforced rules against Cuba; Obama changed some of these rules during the first term of his presidency also permitting the U. S citizens communication between Cuba. Even with the seemingly growing relationship, some barriers cause its impossibility to normalize.

A great source of stress is the situation of a United States agency for international development (USAID) subcontractor by the name Alan Gross arrest in Cuba in 2009. Gross’s intention of travel was to take communications items and set up internet access for the Jewish community. Late 2013 UN general assembly concurred a resolution by condemning the United States’ embargo for a consecutive year in twenty-two years with member countries totaling to 188 members in support with only two opposing that is U. S and Israel. For Sweig it is the implementation of economic reforms of Raul Castro being the type that each U. S leadership has been longing for over a period of fifty years but Washington hasn’t responded. The expectation of the United States to take a sequence of unilateral actions in view of normalization is unrealistic since there is a need for a willing partner.

Many Cubans were now receiving family support in dollars or getting hard cash illegally via tourist trade. The second gauge was in 1993 in September, extending the range for self-employment, increasing the number registered for self-employment as about fifteen thousand by the end of 1992 and over 150 000 by the end of 1999. The reform caused the establishment of a taxation system for these businesses which improved over time by the growing capacity of reporting and collection. The considerations were the change of Cuba to capitalism. That was an issue that would have brought a great rift in the economic relation of the two countries considering their difference in economic policies. Reduced investment is a dangerous path for the Cuban state since it is a growing economy.

The difference in the two governments of one being democratic and the other communist also make the relation somehow impossible in terms of policy making and decision making (Lee et al. The best option moving forward is for the cautiousness United States when making the policies with Cubans since the rigidity of Cuba leadership to still be a communist can affect the U. S economically hence the creation of the embargo. Cuba’s economy is tilted towards the service sector and even though they recognise this weakness their change is dependent on the lifting of the U. S still doesn’t give up on their aim of causing transformation on the Cuban government mostly by using the embargo (Wilkinson, 30-33). In conclusion, the above has shown the relationship between the United States and Cuba.
