Select a topic and create a question with clearly linked aims Our study topic shall be dementia; there shall be a number of research questions to guide us through the study. 1) How is dementia caused and diagnosed? 2) What are the signs and stages in dementia? 3) How does dementia affect people living with it? The main objectives of the study shall be 1) To determine how dementia is caused and can be diagnosed 2) To determine the signs and stages in persons with dementia 3) To determine the effects of dementia condition LITERATURE REVIEW Causes and diagnosis of dementia Dementia is mainly caused by rapid injury to brain cells by affecting the communication between brain cells and in the long run affect feelings and behavior.

Different brain sections are affected in the process like memory and such affect body functions. Dementia involves destroying the nerve cells in the brain that take place in several areas of the brain. Dementia affects people differently depending on the part of the brain affected. At times they test the thinking capacity, memory levels and language. Blood tests also play a big role in determining the brain function and vitamin B12 deficiency. Stages and signs of dementia Dementia can be categorized into four stages. The first stage is the mild cognitive impairment stage; at this point one begins to experience partial memory loss it is usually found in old people. The second stage is the mild dementia which refers to when people begin to experience the early symptoms of dementia like loss of memory and lack of planning.

They include infections and immune disorders, metabolic problems, nutrition deficiencies and poisoning. Some risk factors that can’t be changed include age, family history, Down syndrome and mild cognitive impairment. Those that can be changed are like heavy alcohol use, depression, blood vessel problems and diabetes. Dementia can be associated by difficulty to carry out tasks one has good knowledge of, frequent disorientation, difficulty in making important decisions, mood swings, personality changes and lack of sound initiatives like proper use of resources. Some of the early signs of dementia are short term memory, mood swings, poor pronunciation, confusion, repetition, poor sense of direction and poor adaption to changes. This is despite the fact that studies have identified increased levels of physical activity to improve brain activity hence improving the condition a great deal.

Similarly, regular physical exercise, such as walking or using an exercise bicycle, has been shown to improve the nutritional and cognitive status and decrease the risk for falls and behavioral problems among people with dementia. Unquestionably, family and friends play an important part in the well-being of people with dementia by helping them with appropriate nutrition and exercise, providing them with memory aids and assisting with behavioral interventions. METHODOLOGY Methodology is a theoretical analysis of the methods applied to a field of study. Research design refers to the overall strategy that you choose to integrate the different components of the study in a coherent and logical way, thereby; ensuring you will effectively address the research problem. Dementia presents itself in different ways depending on the part of the brain affected and the severity of the condition.
