Therefore, in this essay, I will identify the brain and the mind vis-a-viz their states and processes. For instance, the experience of having a mental image or seeing something is considered a brain process rather than being correlated with brain processes. Some identical theorists made a claim that brain states are actual mind states. Unlike other scholars, Place addressed the constitution instead of identity. According to Place, the table is an old packing case. Brain process and mind process are different in terms of their reference and meaning. Philosophers have a tendency to assume that identity statements should be a priori truth and also necessary. Identity theorists, on the other hand, have an assumption that “mental processes are brain processes (Oakley, 2018).

” Aristotle also gave his argument in regards to the brain. He said that the brain was meant to cool the bleed. People may object to the idea that the dean of medical school properties is identical with the professor of anatomy properties. The question is if mental processes are identical with brain processes, are there properties of the mind that are not identical with the properties of the brain? The reality is that the properties of experiences are “topic-neutral. ” “Topic neutral” are words which were used to characterize the words “because”, “and”, “if”, and “not. ” If the above words were used in a conversation, it became difficult to determine whether the conversation was one of geology, mathematics, theology, physics, or even history.

This is commonly referred to in the current literature of psychology as the phenomenal field (Mahy, Moses, & Pfeifer, 2014). The account of color of Smart was behaviorist and could never deal with the reversed spectrum problem.

Smart, later, gave an objectivist and realist account of color. However, he failed to make the powers to be powers that are capable of producing ideas in the mind instead of making discriminations based on behavior. The view of Locke proposed that the ideas possess mysterious qualia which are clearly seen on the screen of an internal mental theatre. Some philosophers especially those who explain “is red” in terms of “seems red” are wrong. Back to the issue of colors (purple, yellow, and green striped) mental image or sense datum and in reality, there be no purple, yellow, and green striped thing that exists in the brain. According to the identity theorists, images and data are not real things. This was countered by Smart by emphasizing the term “typically.
