Many people use drug mainly painkillers without prior knowledge on the side effects of the drug, but are only interest in the short-term effects of relieving themselves from the pain they are undergoing. These drugs however, might have lasting effects on the overall health which can result to conditions such as addiction. A well formulated plan need to capture the needs of the current drug addiction prevalence in universities. The objective of this health promotion program is to minimize drug abuse and by so doing eliminate the problem of drug abuse. The students need to be well educated on the issue of drug addiction so that it will cultivate their yearn to give their experience with drugs. Apart from advising people to take drugs under the prescription of a qualified physician, the question of drug abuse has taken new shape since people use drugs unaware that they are abusing them.

The state of health of many students who have no knowledge about the effects of such drugs on their health. College students have been reported to resort to drug abuse to the high demands and expectations from them. They face huge loads of coursework, they have look for par time jobs so that they can maintain their status and at the same time, they have to meet social obligations. The combination of these factors force the students to get involved to alcohol drinking as they seek to get relief from pressure and demand to meet all these obligations. The program has also the aim of establishing the contributing factors which force students into drug usage and this will be useful in the determination of the most appropriate procedure to use in ensuring that drug use among college students is reduced and ultimately reduce the extent to which students depend on drugs.

Rationale for Drug Abuse Reduction among College Students Drug abuse among young adults might have negative implications on their health if not taken care of on time. Young individuals are growing and even the most critical organs of the body such as the brain are also growing. Brain development can be affected in various ways such as reduced gray matter and reduced hippocampus volumes which greatly affect executive functions, learning and memory. This influences other neurological functions such as cognition and heightened risk of substance abuse. Students will observe what should be done to recover from drugs addiction and by so doing refrain from talking drugs (Happé, 2017). Drug abuse education should be compulsory among the college students so that information about effects of drugs is passed to students. The students through leaning will understand the impacts of drugs on their health, education as well as their social life. This will discourage them from getting involved in drugs. Active involvement of the administrative in the monitoring of the health education on drugs need to be implemented to ensure that the students have the necessary information pertaining to drug use. Evaluation of the current level of drug abuse and addiction should call for combined efforts to combat the rate of growth of the young population in colleges abusing drugs. Effectiveness of the Proposed Interventions The mentioned interventions can achieve milestones in the reduction drug abuse among college students.

Implementation of online platforms will be very efficient in reaching out to the students. Most students are on the modern online platforms such social media. Creating an online platform through ads will ensure that a large number of students have been reached since most of the students are found on online platforms. On the hand, involvement of the college administration in creation of awareness among the students captures the attention of the students by capturing student’s attention and degree of responsiveness to health issues related to drugs. Health promotion program aforementioned will greatly achieve the desired results when the interventions proposed are put into action. Furthermore, considering the current prevalence of drug use among students, implementing the interventions will create awareness among the youth on health implications on drug use.
