Identifying Emerging Technologies
This novel technology will significantly transform both the social, educational, political and business environment. Moreover, the emerging technology will encompass man-machine communication, wireless data communications, information technology, bio-technology and advanced robotics. On the other hand, according to Wellington, emerging technologies denotes technologies that have the potential to alter the status quo. Attributes of these technologies entail coherence, radical novelty, profound impact, relatively fast growth, ambiguity and uncertainty (Ballenger, 2017). Conversely, obsolete technologies denotes outdated technology, software or hardware which are no longer relevant or in use, even if they are in working condition. Indeed, introduction of computers marked a paradigm shift from an era which was dominated by typewriters and a transition into a new era of relatively personalized computers (Brantley, 2012). Transition from Typewriters into Computer It goes without saying that typewriters had a myriad of limitations such as editing texts in the process of typing, in case of error, one had either to use a whiteout or start typing afresh in a new paper, it was not relatively portable, inability to view the document before printing it on paper, lack of storage for future retrieval as well as the inability to change font.
As such, seeking for an ideal alternative was inevitable. In that respect, in the early 1970s personal computers were an emerging technology, multinational companies such as IBM manufactured a significant number of computers with the aim of replacing the prevalent typewriters which were predominantly used for formal writing in diverse offices (Brantley, 2012). Although initially computers were confronted by massive resistance from a substantial number of institutions who preferred retaining the mainstream typewriters for writing purposes. In fact, computer literacy has been made a prerequisite for all the students. This is because the corporate world is computerized to a great extent, thus, demanding students who are computer literate. Furthermore, adoption of instructional technology has been prevalent in the recent years. Instructional technology denotes the application of technology to enhance teaching and learning.
In that regard, federal government has equipped classrooms by connecting them with computers and other relevant technological equipment’s. Secondly, Flexibility is yet another feature of a tablet computer, in the sense that, tablet computers can execute several tasks simultaneously. For instance, a student can be typing when at the same time they are surfing the internet, and still at the same time downloading lecturer’s notes on the internet. By contrast, typewriters were solely restricted to typing alone and could not perform other tasks (Leaning, 2017). Third, tablets computers enhances speed while executing tasks, for instance, when typing all one has to do is touch the screen, in turn the tablet responds within seconds. As a result, students save time which is a key resource in life.
In a scenario, where one wants to perform diverse tasks at the same time, one can minimize the current page and open another page. Last but not least, tablets are decorated with capturing graphics which makes it enjoyable for the user in the process of executing tasks. Moreover, one can incorporate graphics which they find to be ideal to be attached on their documents for presentation purposes. This is because tablets have diverse pictures and fonts which can be integrated.
