According to a report released by the World Health Organization (WHO), there is an annual growth of approximately 37. 9% in the use of IOT in the health sector. In the United Kingdom, there has been an increase in the growth rate by over 12% in the health care sector since the introduction of IOT in the hospital systems (Frederix, 2009). According to WHO this particular rise has been attributed by the upper hand in the monitoring of healthcare systems which has the capabilities to detect chronical and life-threatening diseases. Just to mention some of the uses of IOT in the healthcare industry include; Hygiene compliance, tighten budgets, remote monitoring and to predict the arrival of critical patients. The IOT devices leave behind trails of data which can be tracked making the systems vulnerable to attacks (Li, Tryfonas & Li, 2016).

Cybersecurity is also another issue arising in the use of IOT in the sector, in that IoT devices are vulnerable to hackings such as thingbots and botnets. Ethical issues Due to its obvious benefits such as remote diagnosing, continuous monitoring and faster response, the IoT devices and systems raises ethical issues associated with these systems. Some of the major ethical issues arising from the use of these systems include lack of transparency especially in the contextual metadata and data, in that the IOT systems can be easily vulnerable to personnel who are using these systems. The other issue is the weak security channels and methods which are implemented in the medical devices, due to their security vulnerability especially from attacks by unauthorized individuals and hackers, IoT devices have proven not to be 100% reliable.

Consumer awareness and protection rules have been extended in this sector to ensure the protection and security of information systems (Rohokale, Prasad & Prasad, 2011). To be specific, it is in the areas of data protection, privacy, and security where legal issues necessarily arise. The significant evolution of technology and telecoms raises the questions about the adequacy of the regulatory and legislative principles which are in charge of controlling and governing the IOT systems in the UK. Other legal views about IOT is that do the internet of things require more regulations and laws or less to reach its full potential? Other legal views on IOT is the privacy and security of patient information and data. Many may think that the security systems of IOT are fully authenticated; however, these systems may be prone to cyber attacks and errors which may lead to loss of important information.

Social views Advances in the use of IOT is not without social implications. IOT devices are unquestionably beneficial especially when well utilized in the healthcare sector. The use of the Internet of Things in the health sector has proven beneficial and has improved the lives of many people. However, there has been underlying concerns over the security and privacy of data being transferred. The legal and ethical implications which are associated with the use of IOT are complex. Data ownership is also another legal issue arising with the use of IOT in the industry; hospitals should ensure they precisely hold relevant parties responsible and liable for any data collected from patients. Ethical Laws are put in place to ensure that there is social order, justice, and peace in the society, and so does ethics in business since they help business owners to decide how to act or behave.

Therefore, for maximum behaviors in the use of IOT governing laws should be respected. The issue of privacy especially when it comes to patient’s privacy highly needs to be considered, first of all, privacy and security are closely tied in this, unsecured cameras and sensors can easily be used to violate the privacy of information (Frederix, 2009). Sensors in the hospitals which are not well authenticated can easily be hacked by malicious people leading to lack of confidentiality. Despite the huge benefits arising from the technology use, BCS describes some of the limitation and challenges of the systems. They include Unintended, referring to data amalgamation and accident and lastly cybercrimes. The BCS also points out areas which should be highly regarded when it comes to the use of IOT they include: Privacy, organizations which have or are planning to implement laws regarding the use of IOT should continuously be knowledgeable about the privacy of data that they are transferring and receiving.

Further, clear guidelines, transparency and compliance indicators can help in ensuring competency and security of consumer’s information and data. Other areas that BCS warns organizations in the healthcare sector include data management and security of information. However, doctors and other treatment professionals may confirm this information physically to ensure effectiveness, making the systems not reliable. Safety is a critical factor especially in the healthcare sector when an individual goes to a certain hospital severally his or her record is usually kept this helps in easily understanding the patient’s conditions easily (AboBakr & Azer, 2017). Without secured systems them retrieving of correct information may turn out to be dangerous and ineffective for the patient. Compatibility. Some of the legal issues associated with IoT devices and applications include conflicts between civil rights and the enforcement surveillance, cross data flow, destruction of legal liability and policies, privacy lapses and security breaches. Moreover, the area of technology is advancing at a higher speed as compared to the associated regulatory and policy environments. Conclusion The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly growing in the healthcare industry especially with advancements in technology. This has provided a huge opportunity for the industry to grow and detect some of the chronical diseases which require a lot of attention. However, organizations and corporates which are in the healthcare sector should consider all the legal requirements and implications of the IOT and strive to keep up with the new laws in response to the advanced technology.
