As such, it is critical to effectively ingrain leadership skills for successfully leading a team or an organization and effectively handle leadership responsibilities and roles. This essay is an interview that was conducted on March 11, 2018, with Green Vito, a senior police chief in Alabama law enforcement agency. This report will evaluate his leadership performance, methods, values, and critique his strength, weakness, success, and failure rudimentary to the model of (Kouzes & Posner, 2007). Therefore, it will reflect on leadership critical fundamentals entailing action, attitude, and system for ideal leadership to be sustained through five practices. Moreover, the report will recapitulate the outcome of the interview and provide insight on the strategies which Vito can apply to improve his leadership roles and responsibilities at the agency.

Thus, he leads as a role model in the law agency by orienting strategic actions and practices with a common value. Rudimentary to (Kouzes & Posner, 2007) model, they ascertain that leaders have a key obligation in setting an example through alignment of central core values and assert on shared values with confidence and enthusiasm. Vito accepts responsibility and the leadership role and leads by setting example forming an idealized influence through instilling respect, faith, and pride. He has an aptitude to establish what is fundamental and share a sense of ideal vision. Moreover, he is a commitment in the transformational leadership of the law enforcement agency integrated with ideal mutual participation have an essentially positive social influence and effect on the agency effort, perceived fairness, influence, communication, satisfaction and compliance of the group (Soukup, Micó & Zsupan-Jerome).

According to Kouzes & Posner (2007), leadership should initiate improvement, growth, and change through continuously generating success and strategically learning from setbacks. In addition, the model emphasizes meaningful challenges, external ideas and status quo. Therefore, Vito's leadership conforms to Kouzes & Posner model by taking new responsibilities and roles such as motivator, facilitator and change agent which tend to have a critical influence on the success of the effort to change which is correlate to his aptitude to exercise team influence and direct. Furthermore, according to Osland & Mendenhall (2017), an effort to organizational transformation is projected on the aptitude of leader to properly monitor, engage and manage subordinate personnel. Thus, Vito is aligned to shared mindset through strategic communication of goals and visions that conform to the agency culture and he encourages and motivates ownership of transformation progression and its outcomes, conforming to the principles of Kouzes & Posner model.

According to Kouzes & Posner model, the leader in recognition of his responsibility should have intrinsic self-development and self-discovery. Therefore it is critical for Vito to conduct an inward self-reflect and not to expect staff perfection. Moreover, Vito should shape the strategic direction of subordinate through inspiring a sense of focus and direction strategically to induce and drive transformation in the agency. The transformation should be managed, community role to the process acknowledged and promote agency commitment through effective communication of the vision (Kouzes & Posner, 2007). As such, building and developing an ideal agency culture of accountability and excellence. On the other hand, deficiency of instrumental leadership leads to ineffective leadership involving lack of interpersonal skills, micromanaging, no vision, poor communication skills and rigid leadership.

Nonetheless, external environment can impact on the aptitude of a leader to be ineffective since the leadership climate directly influences goal attainment Leadership attributes reflect personal qualities constituting a good leader. The personal attributes entail a diverse array of key characteristics for instance skills, behavior, motives, character, and value necessary for developing leadership qualities. Moreover, one must reflect on personal beliefs and values that guide decisions and actions (Kouzes & Posner, 2007). Therefore, establishing a culture that reinforces the development of crucial leadership skills aid in ingrain effective leadership attributes relative to effective communication, capabilities of effective decision making, critical and creative thinking, accountability and commitment and passion. In addition, leadership shapes the strategic direction in achieving the positive productive outcome. Effective communication is ideal for developing leadership skills.

A leader must clearly define organization goal, mission, and vision as well as the clear and precise definition of roles to the subordinate (Kouzes & Posner, 2017).
