Therefore, physical culture plays a key role in upbringing and education, structuring of free time, the organization of sports, and the winning of sporting competition. A historical analysis reveals that sports culture has been situated in the middle of political domination and economic exploitation. Sport is the union factor that brings people together in the event of political and business differences. Thus, as a unifying factor, sports transcend politics. Other sportsmen like Eugene Sandow have also been successful in marketing themselves and have become influential in a number of various issues. This made Sandow to be considered as the sportsman that left lasting effects on the American culture. This made him to have influence in various parts of the world (Morais, 2013). There exists a relationship between the physical culture and the political economy. This has resulted in sports gaining a new form of respect. This can best be understood through an enquiry in the development of the sports industry which has revolved around three areas. These are the sport products, the role played by entrepreneurs in developing the product, and the types of networks that have been created by the entrepreneurs concerned with the sporting industry.

This shows how a sport can be transferred to assume the form of a commodity (Hardy, 1986). With sports as a commodity, the past two centuries have witnessed the emergence of sport investors and entrepreneurs. During these centuries, the profit-seeking entrepreneurs changed the direction of sport and leisure and what emerged was the domination of business in leisure activities. In the 19th century, the American urbanized culture experienced the commercialization of leisure and sport. In this period, more attention was given to sports because they were profitable to entrepreneurs. Some of the industries have expanded in size to reach the current state. They include the Champions League, World Cup, and Olympics among others (Hardy, 1986). Sports have also been used to achieve various societal and national objectives.
