In this paper I will be finding out the cause of the high suicide levels in Australia, what the government has done to curb the vice and I will also give my recommendations. It was an average of at least twelve people in every one hundred thousand people. The highest cases of suicides came from miners, builders and construction workers. Suicide robs the nation of strong and proper minded people that would take the nation forward. As shown above, there is a high amount of people in the workforce that are committing suicide. This reduces the productivity of different sectors of the economy.

Many children are also left without parents and end up having a rough future. Most of these drugs cause a lot of depression for the person who is using it. This might result in the simple little problems that the victim had to look like they are huge and unsolvable problems. This might result in the victim seeing no way out of his problems other than committing suicide. The high level of unemployment is also another leading cause of suicide. With an average unemployment rate of just over five percent, most people are employed. There are also those people that attempted suicide and lived. There is a study that was done and concluded that a person is more likely to attempt suicide again if he or she tried it once and did not succeed.

If there is follow up on the people who tried to commit suicide to encourage them and check on them, there will be a reduction in the number of suicides. Policies the Government Takes Against Suicide There are many policies that the government has tried to put in place in order to reduce or do away with the number of cases of suicides and attempted suicides. The first policy that the Australian government has put in place and implemented is to promote mental health and the general well-being of the citizens. Alcohol and substance abuse is also one of the reasons for a high level of suicidal attempt. By increasing taxes on alcohol and other related substances. This will in turn increase the price of alcohol and fewer people will be able to afford.

There is also the problem of abusing other illegal substances like marijuana and heroin. These substances make the person unaware of what he is doing. With this in place, the society would be cleansed of many suicide cases and have a chance to focus on their development agenda. There is also the education and awareness of the public and professionals. As stated above most of the people who commit suicide are professional that have well-paying jobs. These people have a lot on their plate from job stress to family drama and stress to their mid-life crisis. There should also be telephone counseling centers. In these centers, there are trained counselors that work in shifts for twenty-four hours a day. These people should have their own emergency number that if someone is depressed and feeling down he or she can call them and they will talk him into being well. There are many suicides that could have been prevented in this way.

Most of the people who commit suicide do so thinking that there is no other way out of their predicament. If these people were made to know that there is always an option, no matter the predicament you might be in maybe they would still be alive today. We can prevent these gruesome scenarios by ensuring that there well laid and easy to get to channels when someone wants to reach out for help. This will prevent the individual from feeling depressed and all alone. This will in turn, reduce the number of people that are committing these high levels of suicides. This will really improve the way of life of the people and result in the reduction of suicide levels in the country.

The government should make it a law that the senior executive in the workplace should ensure that there is adequate and accurate education provided for the workers to ensure that the workers have the adequate information to deal with suicidal issues. In conclusion, it is clear that there is need to start looking at the high rate of suicide in the country with a more serious eye. The death of over three thousand people in ways that could have been easily solved is unacceptable in any upcoming democracy.
