Therefore, 2010 IOM report on the future of nursing has a great impact on nursing education, nursing practice as well as the leadership roles of the nurses. The Impact of the IOM Report on Nursing Education The 2010 IOM report on “The Future of Nursing” under the section Transforming Education articulates that nurses must achieve higher education as well as training to promote unified academic progression. As a result such training and education can only be achieved through an improved system of education. Consequently, higher education has an impact in the manner in which nurses meet the diverse needs of the patients and perform the roles of a leader. Additionally, the advanced science education has quality and improved patient care. Additionally, the quality of health care that the nurses provide to the patients has really improved because the nurse are in a position to protect the patients’ safety.

Also, the nurses play a major role in reducing infection rate, preventing medical faults as well as facilitating the transition of the patients from the hospitals to their homes. Moreover, the nurses are involved in the efforts to control infections by reducing or eliminating bloodstream infections. Some of the ways through which the nurses prevent medical errors is by asking physicians to write clear orders, educating the patients and reconciling the medications independently (Puetz, 2013). Changes I Would Make In My Practice to Meet the Goals of the IOM Report There are several changes that I would make in my practice to meet the goals of the 2010 IOM report. Moreover, nurses are involved in making decisions on various ways of improving care delivery.
