Through the electronic medical record system, the collected and stored information can be shared easily to different administrative healthcare systems has increased efficiency in healthcare service delivery. Through the electronic healthcare systems, it is easy for the healthcare providers to interpret the medical information of a patient and also share it. Despite all the advantages that the electronic health records have availed to the healthcare sector, it has encountered a tough battle from the physicians. This has resulted to a very poor adoption rate in different healthcare facilities citing from its drawbacks. Although the electronic healthcare records have proven a lot of advantages it is faced with significant drawbacks that have raised concern to different people. • Research from PUBMED relevant sources have been executed where information related to the issues of electronic health systems (EHS’s) and security and privacy of patients’ information have been collected.
• Analysis and evaluations of electronic healthcare services approach has been conducted. This is to identify the problems that are related to the security and privacy of the patients’ information. • HIPAA guidelines have also facilitated this research through the provision of valid methods that will help improve the privacy and security of patients’ information in the electronic health records. RESULT Electronic healthcare standards have been developed for the purposes of improving security, privacy, reliability, and interoperability in the communication and sharing information in the health care systems. Also, it important to ensure that the team in charge of enforcing privacy policies is able and willing to make sure that every employee follows these policies. Background information of every employee is important in making sure that the best employee is taken during hiring.
After the hiring process is over, it is important for the healthcare organization to continue improving the workforce into one that respects the privacy of their patients. This could be accomplished through the introduction of a training program that aims at educating the workforce on how to uphold and maintain privacy and security policies. Some of the employees may share private information of their patient unintentionally due to limited knowledge despite their goodwill. Discussion Most of the Health organizations are putting great effort in ensuring that the privacy and security of their patients’ health record is assured. To achieve this, they ensure that they have offered solutions to the different challenges resulting to the gap in the privacy of the patients’ information in areas including confidentiality, availability and integrity. Most of these challenges are of great threat to the future of electric healthcare records.
When trying to ensure that clients are contented with the privacy and security of their health records, most of the organizations are faced with a lot of challenges. With the current growth in the field of technology, the usage of electric health record is going to increase in the future. These aspects include the personal space also referred to as the physical privacy, personal data which is also known as the information privacy, personal choice which entails cultural and religion affiliation and is in other words known as the decisional privacy and also personal relationship which include the relationship with family members and other intimates and is also referred to as the associational privacy. When information is shared by the patient to the pharmacist, it is important to assure the patient that their secret information is safe with the physician.
The physicians have an ethical obligation that requires them to keep private information of their patient safe. For the purpose of care services, patient are required to share their information with the physicians. This can sometimes be difficult where the physician is known to share patient’s information which can hence impact service delivery in the healthcare organizations. These include confidentiality, privacy and security. Despite being used interchangeably, these three concepts have very different fundamental meaning and unique role while it comes to the protection of private information in the healthcare sector in the United States. Confidentiality is a term that is used in the healthcare systems to mean the obligation that health professional has in ensuring that the health information of their patients is not disclosed to a third party.
It is a term that helps in captivating the relationship between the service provider in the health facilities and the patient in question. Security on the other hand is the physical protection that the specific health facility should provide to the private health information. Technology has offered great services when it comes to the processing of the different industries information. This has contributed to many pharmaceuticals relaying on technology to make the accomplishment of their daily task fast and efficient. They also use this technology to store their most important and private information. Automated information can be processed very fast and this is among the many benefits that technology has provided in the pharmaceutical world. For this reason, pharmacists are able to concentrate on more important task than just retrieving information which has greatly improved their performance.
This technology system was introduced to the United States in the early 1990 and has since been a major assistant to the pharmacist around the United States. This technology has been able to help reduce medication errors and provide not only technological safety but also clients’ safety as it minimizes healthcare errors.
