These four companies are coming up with several types of products that do not affect their own operations but also interrupt other businesses in the world’s economy. Scott Galloway, a professor and a former entrepreneur says that the future of the four digital monsters, Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Apple is uncertain due to the clash among the four (Koomey, 2013). According to Wilson (2015), all of the four technologies are either getting more powerful or dying depending on how they perform their operations. The four companies are competing with one another in the business market for sale of mobile phones, apps, social networking, advertisement, and retailing. The four are heading are going in the direction of trespassing other territory as they are trying to increase their customer base (Lewis, 2012).
Therefore, the key players in the global smart-home market are the Siemens AG, United Technologies Corporation, General Electric Company, Schneider Electric, Honeywell International Inc. , Ingersoll-Rand PLC, Johnson Controls Inc. , ABB Ltd, and Legrand S. A (Herbes, 2014). This has helped Google to gain popularity among many people in the smart home market because it has boosted the connection that is much faster than the Wi-Fi. However, Google Fiber has not reached all countries in the globe as it has three countries only but it is planning to expand to 34 more countries in the world.
Google uses the Android in home automation and the support of IOS devices (Balta, 2014). Choi (2005) says that the Reabsorbed Nest product is Google’s new brand that connects to the home devices for better integrations. Apple Apple has come up with its Airport Express Base Station that helps boost the speed of smart home wired network (Rogers, 2003). Facebook do not offer home automated hardware (Strengers, 2013). This is an enterprise version of a social network launched recently. However, Workplace is partnering with other partners with the enterprise sector such as the Quip, Dropbox, and Microsoft to make it sharing and organizing of files easier (Pullinger, 2014). In addition, the Workplace has also come up with some custom bots that are specific to the needs of the organization.
Amazon Amazon has no smart home networking product or any plan in future because the company is already selling its services on the Web-Service market (Schot, 2016). In this market competition, all the companies have a special purpose to provide services to customers. Competition creates services and technologies for smart homes that help in providing smart solutions to energy consumers (Van Lente, 2013). This is because the market is a significant area of strategic energy planning and the national policy. According to Wilson (2015), adoption of smart home technologies by the four companies is relied on the perception of the prospective users expecting strong benefits with perceived and acceptable risks. Therefore, this market competition is worth to all participants in the smart home market.
However, Amazon is doing every best to take the leading space in the market. Amazon’s long term objective is cut all its ties as an economic activity and become a full smart home company and gain a powerful position in the home platform (Robles, 2010). To gain this, Amazon has been taking advantage of its popularity in the U. S technology industry and its strong AWS cloud services. Schot (2016) says that Amazon is planning to improve its scale in the smart home platform through achieving the IoT device. Thus, Apple’s motivation is lead in the market is not likely to push through. Facebook is described as the dark horse since it has no chance to enter home market in future from its decision of delay to launch its smart speaker (Baldwin, 2017).
