In this light, businesses are able to enter new markets while reducing overhead costs. According to Hinchcliffe (2011), IT professionals spend most of their time maintaining systems instead of creating strategies to improve the future. Cloud computing is freeing up time for IT department to come up with innovative ideas to improve competitiveness in future. Social Media Social media has become an operational requirement for many businesses. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Linked In have enabled businesses to market their products and communicate with clients.

Artificial intelligence is being used to develop robots that can work fast with a lot of precision compared to human beings. Further, robots with artificial intelligence can process complex data within minutes. In this light, companies have started to rely on artificial intelligence for decision making and communication. The number of companies relying on AI is expected to rise in the future. Of the five competitive forces presented in the Chapter 2 (Porter’s model), which is the most significant for an organization in terms of making IS investment decisions? Why? Which is the least significant? Why? Out of the five competitive forces presented by Porter, threat of substitute products is the most significant factor to consider when making decisions regarding IS investment (Wilkonsin, 2013).

In this light, there cannot exist rivalry between firms using the information system. Which five Web sites do you visit most frequently? What makes you come back to these sites? Which ones do you spend most time on? Why? The websites that I visit the most are Football365, Apple, Microsoft, Tesla and Adidas. I love, shoes, electronics and football. Therefore, at times I go through Apple, Microsoft and Walmart websites to check the latest electronics. I also make my purchases online hence I go through the websites to determine the product that fits my needs and budget. Also, I like going through Tesla’s website to check the features of their cars and other products. I believe Tesla has made incredible inventions in the automotive industry and I am always on the look on their next big invention.

All these have a strong public image and this is the reason they have such a huge following on Facebook. Coca-Cola is number three in the list with over 107 million likes and in 2016 it had 97 million likes. This is a difference of more than 10 million likes which is evidence that the drinks public image has improved significantly since 2016. The results are a result of a successful marketing campaign during this period. c. Database management systems provide programmers and users with an efficient way of creating, retrieving, updating and managing data. Companies deal with huge amounts of data and it is easy for some information to get lost without a data management system.

With DBMS users are able to easily locate information from various databases. An entity is a single thing, object, place or person in a database. A database is usually made by a collection of different entities. It is important to note ERP systems have a synchronized and automated reporting (Netsuite, 2018). Employees do to prepare their report after which they merge it with other employees. The system generates a comprehensive report for all the departments as all the information is processed in one database. Reports made by human beings are prone to errors but reports by ERP systems are accurate. Further, ERP systems have a dashboard which enable employees to view and access features of the system easily. Algorithms now control the inclusion and exclusion of information and people in many places.

They have been the power to create and enforce injustices. Interestingly, human beings cannot evaluate the outcomes of algorithms to determine when, why and where algorithms were discriminatory. The result produced by an algorithm is not accessible to the programmer which makes it difficult to determine whether there are algorithmic biases. Even though this is the case programmers should be held accountable of discriminations that result from the use of their algorithms. Google also generates slightly different results for every user. It has an algorithm that analyses previous search history and this guides search results (Byrnes, 2016). Biases make platforms such as Facebook and Google to adapt to different customer preferences and this is one of the reasons why they are successful.
