Emergency contraception, although not a preferred regular type of birth control, can stop unplanned pregnancy for sexual partners who engage in unprotected sex and realize later they don’t need the pregnancy. At that point, the female partner should take the emergency pill to avoid the pregnancy (Arteaga, 627). Some of the reasons emergency contraception gets preferred include missed hormonal contraception, the absence of non-hormonal contraception during intercourse, non-consensual intercourse, breakage of condom or slipping off of the condom used or error in the calculation of fertility period. More often than not, health practitioners warn that individuals should use emergency contraception strictly for emergencies, which prove impossible to reverse nor prevent. Hormonal birth control methods control the hormonal levels of the female body to prevent pregnancy.

However, the method would entail blocking the introduction of sperms into the uterus in the first place and cancel out the chances of fertilization completely. In other forms, the non-hormonal birth control methods would entail the blockage of the introduction of eggs into the uterus, such that introduction of sperms would not cause an uproar concerning fertilization and the probabilities. Non-hormonal birth control methods include, but not limited to, both male and female condoms, cervical cap, spermicides, tubal ligation, and diaphragm. Apart from hormonal, no-hormonal and emergency birth control methods, other sexual partners prefer the natural approaches of contraception. The natural methods of contraception do not involve either devices or medical interventions to perform birth control. Consequently, the sperms ejaculated would not find any eggs to fertilize, despite the woman possibly being fertile at the time of intercourse.

Before the new dawn on family planning and birth control, mothers around the world depended on blind chance to bear children. Unfortunately, blind luck brought with it the burden of unwanted children and overburdened parents among other issues they grappled with. The estrogen levels, however, seem relatively lower than the one at the start of the cycle. Consequently, the regulation of the two hormones results in a reduction in menstrual cramps for women. Advantages One of the advantages of birth control pills, as indicated, involves the suppression of menstrual cramps in women. BCP also regulate menstrual cycles, hence making them more predictable, especially for individuals with irregular or frequent cycles. Blood loss during menstrual cycle, especially excessive loss may lead to anemia.

This type of contraception presents the most effective reversible method of birth control (conservancy. umn. edu). Normally, with the long-acting contraception in place, involved individuals don’t face challenges brought about by forgetting to take them to be effective. Some of the available types of long-acting contraception include the use of intrauterine methods or hormonal implants. The bleeding can range from infrequent, irregular, to frequent and prolonged bleeding. Additionally, with use of intrauterine devices, possible uterine perforations may cause complications for users (conservancy. umn. edu). Combination Contraceptives The combined contraceptives or oral contraceptive pills refer to pills taken by women regularly to avoid getting pregnant. For the second option, also the non-period option, however, the user gets a guarantee of not getting pregnant unless they miss taking more than eight pills in a row (Gallo).

Advantages The oral contraceptive provides a ninety-nine percent guarantee of protection from pregnancy. Additionally, the pill proves easy to use and does not get in the way of sex. Another, the advantage of the pills entails its ability to reduce period cramps. Also, users of this birth control method stand a chance of immediately getting pregnant once they stop using the tablets. As a result, the adolescents may begin the use of contraceptives (Behavioral Methods of Family). Likelihood of Sexually Transmitted Infections Most adolescents prefer to use non-hormonal contraceptive methods owing to the phobia of getting noticed by either friends or relatives. Therefore, such groups of people may not prefer using oral contraception or long-acting birth control strategies (eric. ed. gov).

The process, of advocating approval, consequently marked a departure from FDA operating standards, with approval processes altered, and access to the safe and effective drug obstructed (AMA opposes FDA). Conclusion In conclusion, birth control methods prove essential both in pregnancy avoidance as well as assisting in various medical conditions, as depicted by the numerous advantages comparing to the few disadvantages. Therefore, the need to teach birth control strategies comes, not only among senior women but also adolescent girls. Some of the girls may develop conditions from a tender age which might lead to them using birth control pills, not for pregnancy avoidance, but for medical reasons. Without proper awareness creation, these girls might feel humiliated, considering how others would look at them, without knowledge of their experiences, thus impacting negatively on them.
