In the paper, we are going to examine in-depth the major similarities and differences in both stories supporting with the relevant examples from both texts. The similarities between these two stories are. First, none of them has a happy ending. In the first story Babylon revisited, Charlie does not get to take his child Honoria despite him having abandoned his excessive drinking habits. In the great Gatsby, Gatsby takes the fall for the mistakes of two people, Tom who was Myrtle's lover and Daisy who was driving the car. Her husband, among various physical accomplishments, had been one of the most powerful ends that ever played football at New Haven a national figure in a way, one of those men who reach such acute limited excellence at twenty−one that everything afterward savors of anti−climax.

His family was enormously wealthy even in college his freedom with money was a matter for reproach, but now he'd left Chicago and come East in a fashion that instead took your breath away: for instance, he'd brought down a string of polo ponies from Lake Forest. It was hard to realize that a man in my generation was wealthy enough to do that (3). Later, Nick left for the Midwest to get away from all the lot that was amongst the lives of the affluent of the West Coast Thirdly, it takes both Nick and Charlie to take drastic steps to change their lives. For Charlie, it was the death of his wife Helen that changed his drinking ways and severed his friendship and drinking adventures with Lorraine and Duncan.

The first significant difference was that Charlie was a successful businessman in Prague while Nick had just landed in New York to learn about the bond ventures. Other differences include that in Babylon revisited; all the families seemed intact. Neither of the spouses cheated on the other. However, alcohol was a problem for Lorraine and Duncan as well as financial issues:- Going out of the restaurant, a man and a woman unexpectedly hailed him. "Well, the old Wales!"Hello there, Lorraine. Those are beautiful children of yours, well brought up, good manners. We think Honoria’s a great little girl too (6). Secondly, in as much as both Charlie and Nick are drinkers, they both frequented different joints. Charlie loved bars and catching up with old friend and acquaintances such as Alix, Lorraine, and Duncan.

While for Nick, he liked to attend parties, case example Tom's party at Myrtle’s apartment and the one of Gatsby's party his gothic mansion. But you won’t always like me best, honey. You'll grow up and meet somebody your age and go marry him and forget you ever had a daddy. " “Yes, that's true," she agreed to tranquility (13). However, for Nick, he decided the best option was to run and abandon his dream of venturing into bonds. Consequently, he broke up with his girlfriend, Jordan for no apparent reason of which even the decisions to relocate were based on the choices of someone else and not his own.
