The characters of the two novels will be compared so that the similarities and differences in their traits can be analyzed. The interaction of man and the nature that surrounds him as analyzed by the two authors will also be helpful in examining the conflicts and concepts that are battled by the main characters featured in the stories. Also, the thoughts presented by the authors can seem to imply a struggle that exists between evil and bad and eventually how the characters handle these conditions can be of importance. Therefore, in this essay, a comparison of “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charllote Perkins Gilman and “A Simple Heart” by Gustave Flaubert will be done to determine the above concepts of analysis. Points of Comparison of the Two Readings “A Simple Heart” by Gustave Flaubert In this novel by Gustave Flaubert, the life of Felipe, who is a kindhearted servant girl is narrated by the author and he fills his audience in with his thoughts about the girl and the life she led working as a serving girl to the family of a widow named Madame Aubain.

Also, during her fifty years of service to this family, she formed a strong bond with them, being the family she never had the opportunity to have and love. To show that this attachment actually existed between the two families, the author cites the devotion that Felicite had towards the church activities of Virginie, who was Madame Aubain’s daughter that prompted a strong association and bond between the two people and saw them operate as family. “She copied the religious observances of Virginie, fasting when she fasted and going to confession whenever she did”. But Madame Aubain’s character is presented in this book as a caring and loving person who loved her family unconditionally and worked hard to keep it together despite the challenges she faced as a single mother.

The description presents the creature of a very funny physique and can prompt a reader to either pity the person described or laugh out at the description depending on what mood they choose to read the novel. Even though the main character in “A Simple Heart” never travels too far and has an extremely limited knowledge of geography, there are images of travel that feature in the novel. “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charllote Perkins Gilman This short story is narrated in first person and the narrator describes a three-month stay in an estate by writing a series of entries into a secret diary.

This is a realist way of looking at things that is presented by the author as she delves into real life experiences that are passed through by women. After being prevented by her husband to engage in her interests and work, she becomes stifled by the role of being a mother and a housewife and nothing more and this prompts her to find a meaningful thing to keep herself busy. Therefore, by finding a solution to the mystery that was faced by the yellow wallpaper, the narrator may be inviting us to her investigation of her own mind and the complex experience she is going through that is seemingly ignored by everyone around her.

“By tearing down the wallpaper and freeing the woman behind it, the narrator metaphorically tears away the bonds of marriage, domicility, and female oppression that hold her.
