Consumer Report on Printers
The demand for a higher speed printers led to the invention of the first HP LASERJET in 1984 and later an APPLE LASERWRITER which changed the dynamics of printing to a more developed form known as the desktop publishing. The development of more changes in the printing industry led to the development of more expensive and sophisticated printers that offer 3D printing. More developments in the printing world have seen the rise of more developed printers to cover such needs, (Barrett, P. In my quest for an owning a printer that I could use to print my assignments and at the same time offer little commercial printing services to my classmates or other people for small fees, I decided to conduct a research on what best printer fits my needs. I had to first choose from the first three top brands in order to have the best quality by the best manufacturer.
The Cost- I needed a printer that ranges from $550 to $750. This is because the printer was only to be used for printing assignments and other little printings for small charges. It was not meant for doing bulk printing and so there was no need for overspending. The printing speed- How many pages the printer could print in a minute was my area of interest. The page yield for the printer- How many pages could be produced by the printer before the ink is refilled or the cartridge replaced. The final one in line which also had good qualities and within my budget was the Canon PIXMA MG3620 that was going for $700. Considering all other factors and characteristics of these three types of printers, I arrived at a conclusion that the Epson Workforce WF-7610DWF was the best among the rest in this category.
The printing speed. Unlike the speed of early printers which was always determined in characters per minute or the lines per minute factor, the modern printers' speed is determined by how many pages the printer can print in a minute. The pages per minute are determined by the wordings printed and not the image since the images take a bit longer time to print. In this category, I choose to go with the HP Colour LaserJet PRO MFP-M277DW since it carries the highest page yield among the three. The printing mode. This was considering the fact if the printer was able to print colored documents or it was just a black and white affair and whether the printer could print both wordings and images. The data received by a printer can either be a string of characters, vector image, bitmapped image or a page description language.
Some printers are capable of printing all these four kinds of data while others cannot. The Epson Workforce WF-7610DWF and the HP Colour LaserJet PRO MFP-M277DW can print a variety of papers from A4, A3, and A5 while Canon PIXMA MG3620 can only print the A4 paper. Under the special features, I still chose to stick to the Epson Workforce WF-7610DWF since it carries more special features than the rest. Summary of Findings In full consideration of the factors I chose and considered for my research that narrowed me down to three printers namely the Epson Workforce WF-7610DWF, the HP Colour LaserJet PRO MFP-M277DW and the Canon PIXMA MG3620 and later left me to make a full decision on what printer I would go for among the three.
This is because on cost, in as much as the three printers were within my range of spending, the Epson Workforce WF-7610DWF was the least expensive among the three. It, therefore, made no sense for me to spend on a lightly expensive printer yet the Epson Workforce WF-7610DWF carried basically all the characteristics I needed for the best quality printer. Weighing all these considerations, at this point I do away with the Canon PIXMA MG3620 since it was the least ranked in all the categories apart from the printing speed which it was the best but only with a margin of 2pages. It is therefore good to do away with the Canon PIXMA MG3620 at this point. Conclusion and Recommendations Based on my research and other considerations, I concluded that the Epson Workforce WF-7610DWF was the best printer after weighing all the considerations, it was the best among the three printers according to the points awarded out of the possible 100%.
All percentages were out of 100% Category Epson Workforce WF-7610DWF HP Colour LaserJet PRO MFP-M277DW Canon PIXMA MG3620 Cost 30% 25% 20% Printing Speed 15% 10% 18% Page Yield 28% 30% 25% Printing Mode 5% 5% 5% Special Features 18% 15% 10% Total 96% 85% 78% My final conclusion on settling for Epson Workforce WF-7610DWF was as a result of the ratings shown above on the table. Further to that, I can openly recommend and ascertain that Epson Workforce WF-7610DWF is a good printer for any person wishing to set up a little commercial printing business, (Nishio, P.
