The vice demoralizes and belittles the victims and thus should be criminalized and the perpetrators prosecuted. Domestic violence exists in many different forms which include issuing threats, neglect, domineering, sexual abuse, and stalking (García-Moreno et al 1685). All these amount to crimes in the United states. Whilst domestic violence may be caused by either the male or the female counterpart, many cases affecting the males are not reported in North Carolina. This is attributed to the feeling of being a lesser man. Again, it doesn't necessarily have to take place at home. Cases of domestic violence have been reported in universities and colleges in North Carolina (Guinn et al 2018). The fact that domestic violence has been the leading cause of homicides, perpetrators of this act ought to be prosecuted. Domestic violence has far-reaching impacts on the victims, perpetrators as well as their children.

Depending on the nature of violence, domestic violence may lead to death, medical issues, serious injuries, and serious mental issues to the victims, perpetrators and the children (Sabornie & Edward 2018). Domestic violence is also learned from parent to child, for instance, a child whose mother has suffered molestation from his mother is likely to practice this malice when he grows up (Austin et al 2017). On the contrary, violent cases have been reported from people whose parents were not violent. In other cases, where the parents were violent, the children do not uphold the vice when they grow up. It may also be learned through perpetrators experience such as being prosecuted or being sentenced for the offense. Social and religious institutions have been cited as a contributing factor in cases where these institutions advocate for use of violence as a way of solving domestic problems (Sabornie & Edward 2018).

In North Carolina, cases of women committing homicide in self-defense have been reported as opposed to men. Homicide cases involving men have been reported to lead to the murder of the victims and other family members as opposed to female associated homicides (Sabornie & Edward 2018). On the contrary, homicides and domestic violence has occurred in same-sex intimate relationships. For instance, in North Carolina, gay and lesbian domestic violence related cases have been reported. This overwrites the belief that domestic violence is gender-based (Guinn et al 2018). Actually, nearly half of the reported cases are attributed to the consumption of alcohol among other drugs (Sabornie & Edward 2018). The aggression and motivation of the perpetrators of this vice in North Carolina are catalyzed by a feeling of superiority associated with the effects of these drugs. However, domestic violence affects people across the divide.

Cases of sober perpetrators have also been reported. Although alcohol may be a catalyst to domestic violence, there is a likelihood of other underlying reasons why a drunken man may turn violent to their partners. Burns and loss of vision have been seen to lead to permanent disfigurement in women who fall victims of domestic violence. A research has proven that violence against pregnant women can be fatal to both the mother and the unborn baby (Sabornie & Edward 2018). In many cases, miscarriages have occurred due to the use of violence against pregnant women. Sexual assault has been identified as a cause of unwanted pregnancies and complicated gynecological illnesses. In some cases, victims have been infected with STDs including HIV/AIDS (Austin et al 2017). In extreme cases, children suffer behavioral changes which include emotional distress, immature behavior, sleep problems, and delayed language development.

While these effects are often overlooked, they heavily affect the child's lifestyle in the future (Guinn et al 2018). School going children have been cited to portray poor concentration leading to poor performance. These behavioral changes take the form of depression, bed wetting, and psychosomatic illness and in extreme cases, such children may attempt suicide (Austin et al 2017). A research conducted in the USA have cited that the social development for these children is damaged and thus they may not show any acts of mercy and apathy to others (Sabornie & Edward 2018). The state has also ensured that victims are not bailed out immediately to reduce the danger they may pose to the victims when they are released. Since a family is the basic component of the society, it is the responsibility of everyone to support families going through domestic violence.

It is also the responsibility of the society to integrate victim-survivors back to the society (Austin et al 2017). Community workers have been trained to offer information to survivors regarding assistance offered by the state as well as guiding them file cases against the perpetrators (Sabornie & Edward 2018). Counseling is normally done to both the victim and the perpetrator. This form of violence has also been cited to lead to depression in children and injuries when they find themselves in the midst of domestic violence. In a way of curbing this violence, the North Carolina state has formulated laws that criminalize domestic. In addition to criminalizing the vice, the government should enforce the law by prosecuting those who are involved in the vice. Works Cited Austin, Anna E. et al.
