Domestic Violence With Native Americans

The onset of violence among the natives in the country has risen tremendously over some time now, and it has become a grave issue in the country. Dealing with the various occurrences of violence is currently on top lists of the authorities, and the police are working towards creating sanity and developing the best conditions of dealing with some of the heinous acts that are related to violence. The main aim of this study is to examine the various forms of violence that are common among the American people and provide the mitigation practices of some violent activities that affect the wellness of the society. Common types of Domestic Violence Associated with Native Americans Various types of domestic violence are characteristic of the modern society.

There are multiple types of domestic violence which are threatening the wellness and the safety of the American people. Some men believe that the only way to instill discipline and submissiveness on their wives is through beating them up when they are wrong. However, there are also some men who just beat their wives for the sake of beating them and without any viable reason. This is an issue that is becoming majorly witnessed among the Americans, and it has become the most notable thing among the natives. Women usually fall prey to this issue given that they are considered as the weaker sex, and hence they cannot adequately defend themselves or even compete with women. However, cases of women beating their husbands also become part of the present day news.

Sexual abuse or sexual violence can take many forms. It can be rape or sexual harassment. In most cases, rape is usually perpetrated the tryst members of the society whom the victims believe that they will do nothing to them. Uncles have been noted as some of the people who lead in rape cases among their relatives, and this issue often remained under the carpet among the natives. Rape cases are widespread among the poor people in the native population, and they cannot fully report or make a complaint in such cases. Emotional abuse can have many devastating effects on the lives of the people and can create various negative impacts among the members of society. Many people among the natives are living engulfed on the emotional abuse, and they have lived with it, and it has affected their livelihood and other ordinary lives.

In most cases, the emotionally abused can come with another form of abuses. The emotional abuses are usually combined with other types of domestic abuse such as physical abuse and even sexual abuse (Katherine, 2009). Psychological Abuse Psychological abuse is also another form of abuse in the present society that is becoming quite rampant and especially among the native population in the country. These can be the members of the weaker sex such as women and also the vulnerable members of the society and hence it remains a bigger challenge today. Isolation Isolation is also another common type of domestic violence affecting many natives in the United States and it’s within the natives themselves at some point. Isolation groups people based on their character, outlook and also how they create with others and the subsequent ways through which they act and stay with others.

The isolated people often feel rejected, unloved and even unwanted in society. Isolation can be based on many factors which are inherent to how society looks and act when they are with other people in society. In the isolation spree, the main causes of this problem often walk scot free even with the massive damage that they can cause on the victims. Economic Abuse Economic stability is the wish of everyone in society. It is one of the core features that determine how the society should act and can be said to be economically sustainable and which they can sustain themselves fully. In the society today, some people are rich, and there are also others who are poor. The rate of poverty is quite high among some Native Americans, and they are unable to meet some of the core needs that they should achieve and develop to better their lives and also the lives of the other people that they live with.

Many victims of domestic violence have undergone a lot of pain. The physical abuses, for instance, leave the victims with lifetime scars. These scars may be in the outside bodies or even in their souls. Some victims have also lost some vital parts of their bodies such as hands or and some spent a lot of time in hospitals removing from the physical violence or being that was meted them. Therefore, the victim of such violence live with these scars for their lifetime, and it always is a reminder of what they pass through in the hand of other people within society. Some of the methods that can be applied include the following (Agtuca, 2010). The law should be made supreme to deal with some of the common types of domestic violence within the Native American society.

The perpetrators of some of the crimes of violence which can be borne out of domestic violence groups should be developed in a way that will deal with some of these crimes with ease. Dealing with domestic violence among the people in society requires all-around measures. In this case, domestic violence such as physical abuses should be dealt with by the full wrath of the law. Therefore, counseling these people will provide an efficient way of helping them to overcome these features that make them susceptible to performing or engaging in violence. Counseling is also made to involve the people who are the victims of domestic violence. In this way, counseling will help them in developing the best ways of overcoming the after pain or grieve that comes with domestic violence.

Counseling the victims of domestic violence also helps in ensuring that the society is working towards securing the inclusion of such people in the society and they will feel loved, acknowledged and also help in dealing with the stigmatization that may be priced with the domestic violence that they had faced initially (Wexley, 2000). The government should also work towards the provision of job opportunities for its people.
