However, some people use more than the recommended amount to escape from their problems or achieve the effect of drugs in their body. Most teenagers are afraid of sharing their problems with their parents. Some thinks that they will be judged wrongly while others know that they will not get any help. Chappie is the main character in the story “Rule of the Bone” by Russell Banks. He uses marijuana to get high and forget how his stepfather abused him sexually. Chappie started using marijuana and got addicted. He could no longer control the use this drug. To manage his addiction, Chappie began stealing items from his mother and pawning them. Chappie’s life has resulted from drug use and addiction. He made the choice of handling problems the easy way and lost his family.

This made him prefer loving on the streets to living a healthy and free life after jail. Failing to report abuse even to the law was a mistake Chappie made. Legal action would have been taken and the people responsible for hurting him would pay for their mistakes. He was focused on saving his addiction over his psychological and emotional wellbeing. Use and addiction of drugs has different effects on the life of the user. His mother did not have any issues with him and wanted to have her family back. However, Chappie was still using drugs and was unstable emotionally after learning that his stepfather still lives here. The drugs had affected Chappie such that he could not focus on moving on from the assault in the most appropriate way.

He did not consider his mother’s intention to bring the family together. He also did not think that his stepfather was abusing his mother and she was getting weaker. p). Chappie’s home was already broken since his biological father left when he was five years old. The condition got worse when Chappie decided to handle his problems by smoking marijuana. However, children from broken homes are also vulnerable to drug abuse since majority find their escape and comfort in drugs. Chappie could not trust anyone to help him. He felt that I-Man played a better role as his father compared to the other father figures that had been in his life earlier. Chappie had good and bad experiences in Jamaica. He got the chance to meet his biological father who was a medical officer or doctor for the government.

He had a big popular house and was known as a drug addict. Accidents and loss of life are effects of drug use and abuse( Casapalmera. In conclusion, Chappie’s life was made up of events influenced by his drug use and addiction. It began through stealing small items and pawning them to shoplifting items from big shops in the mall. He later lost his family and close friends. Dependence on Marijuana made Chappie’s life miserable since he lost almost every one that was close to him. Living on the streets and going to Jamaica in the company of a stranger was a decision Chappie made under the influence of drugs, generally, the decisions and actions Chappie made were revolved around the satisfaction Chappie received when or after smoking.
