This identity is acquired as someone transition from childhood to adulthood and mainly depend on the environment the person has been interacting with in addition to other factors associated with someone's ability to perceive and integrate what is happening within her surrounding to make judgments. This has been described by the author of Whistling Vivaldi, Claude Steele as “condition of life” which he concluded after interviewing one of his students who admitted opted to remain silent in class because feared to answer incorrectly. Body The child who has grown in the family where it feels appreciated and recognized in whatever activity is involved in grows to be a strong person in life because of the support is given during the childhood stage. The identity this person develop as he or she transitions to become an adult is totally different compared to another child who grew in a different family set up where such support through appreciation and recognition was absent.

Though these two children may have successful lives despite growing in different environments they will have totally different personal identity attributed to their early exposure to life. This child grows with a sense of care which he transfers to his family in future hence living a good life and bringing to society what is expected of him as a parent. Such a person gains more recognition because of his values in the society which are associated with his identity. In addition, a child bullied by others can experience a sense of being inferior when always interacting with others which paint the different image to him (McLean et al. pg. This eventually results in a personal identity which will affect his performance as a child whether academically or in another field because always perceive himself as inferior to do anything constructive due lack of confidence.

The teacher has been taught how to pass information to others and this might be an easier task to her compared to a farmer who has no skills in conveying the same information. The people who are made to believe they are superior regardless of their background due to their nationality origin will always tend to portray that image to establish them even if they are not that good in what they are engaged at. This perception can be deteriorating to someone life if cannot appreciate the fact that there are others who can perform better than them. This kind of personal identity was most conspicuous during the colonial era where colonialists did not recognize the ability the people they had colonized to govern themselves. This was even detrimental to the colonial government themselves because they finally realized they wasted a lot of resources developing infrastructure which would late leave to become beneficial to the countries which had been colonized.
