Essay on Teaching Religion

S since the colonial era. America was created as a region of religious freedom. Seemingly, that freedom is being stripped away from the America citizens. How? Well, through the endless debates about whether or not religion should be taught in school. How else would the society get people of personal moral criteria and sound moral judgment if not through religion? How many would more people engage in social problems such as suicide crimes, out-of-wedlock births, and divorce if they had nothing stopping them? Religion is a pillar on which the society leans on whenever they have nothing else to lean on. With these classes, they can talk about various issues and understand them from the point of views of other people. They can realize that they should not judge a religion through the actions of a few people, instead, religion is perfect, but the people who practice it are not.

With this in mind, it is easier to reduce amounts of conflicts, which leads to peace and eventually a cohesive society (Marzili). The tolerance that comes with learning religion in school is essential in today's world, which is rapidly becoming fraught with extremism, hatred, and division. Teaching all religions in school gives the children an opportunity to make sense of what they as individuals think and believe. Repel the evil with one which is better…" all religions, for the most part, are a definite subject which provides the young people with moral and ethical ideas that play a role in instilling good values in them. From Islam to the teachings of Christianity and beliefs of Buddha, there are universal teachings of being kind to others and being helpful to them such as the examples above.

This encourages love and harmony among people. With schools allowing all religions to be taught, children will have the privilege of forming and building their character at a young age, which will provide them with material that will be of use to them when they become adults. When children are taught all religions in school, they can gain a balanced and more logic perspective on different faiths and religious beliefs which allows them to make an informed decision when choosing what to believe in. He/she might only teach what he/she wants to and omits everything else, which creates a specific notion of that religion. This negatively or positively influences the judgment of the children (Thomas). To a great extent, it is true that all humans are a product of the environments they are in.

They absorb the views, opinions, and traditions of their families, schools, and communities. However, education concerns itself with intellectual enlightenment, which encourages mind opening and not closing them. This is because all religions have an almost ground on what is right and what is wrong. All of them have positive messages and encourage love peace and harmony. This results in a diverse but cohesive society. Also, being exposed to many religious beliefs help an individual to differentiate between their families' religious beliefs and faith and their issues.
