In the globalized world, people have become preoccupied with various activities so that they may argue that they do not have enough time to prepare meals at home a reason why they prefer fast foods. A large percentage of the Americans consume fast foods and this makes it hard for them to live a healthy life. Lifestyle diseases have become common among the American population and this has left the government with a burden of taking care of the health needs of the citizens. A large percentage of the American GDP is spent on health care and in most cases, some illnesses are long term which means recurrent expenditure increases. Families have suffered because of loved ones with the chronic illnesses because they have to meet their health needs including medications.
There is the need for people to have an understanding of the impact of fast foods and how they contribute to most of the health problems in the society. Some of the questions that could enlighten Americans on the issue of fast foods include; 1. Why should Americans substitute homemade food for fast food? Feeding on fast foods is an addictive behavior and one that promotes laziness among the Americans. Some people claim that they do not have enough time to prepare meals at home while they focus on avoiding cooking. Fast foods have a high percentage of processed sugars and fats. The nutritional value acquired through the homemade food is more when compared to the health problems associated with the consumption of fast foods. Why is our government allowing chemicals in our food? Most of the companies in the fast food industry remain among the corporations that have a high amount of contribution to the GDP.
Some of the firms have grown to become multinational corporations and have a significant contribution to the government revenue. In this case, the government cannot close down the companies as this will reduce the amount of revenue earned by the government. The companies have also employed a large number of American citizens which means that if they do not continue supplying the fast foods in the society, they may have to lay down some workers. Why do we prefer fast food? Fast foods are easily accessible all over the nation because of the increased number of fast food companies. The demand for fast foods is also high which means that the firms have to increase their supply. Many people prefer fast foods because they save time and one can purchase and carry the food to their homes or offices.
Most employees who have a tight working schedule prefer fast foods because they can take them to their offices where they eat as they work. Fast foods are sweet when compared to homemade foods. Every portion has a contribution which it makes to the body and this is the reason why it is important to consume the right portion. For example, a large portion of carbohydrates or proteins will have a negative impact on the body. This is because, they will add to the burden of digestion and might eventually alter the normal functioning of somebody organs (Hawkes, 2413). Large portions of carbohydrates and fats have contributed to the development of chronic illnesses including heart diseases and diabetes. The portion of food eaten has to be proportionate to how active a person is on a daily basis.
Corporations in the fast food industry face high competition reason why they have to apply any convincing strategy to attract more customers and making them loyal to their products and services. In conclusion, Americans should focus on having a healthy living through healthy eating. At all times, Americans should focus on consuming a balanced diet which will have nutritional value and prevent them from developing some illnesses such as chronic diseases associated with unhealthy eating. Also, the government should play its role in ensuring that chemicals are not incorporated in food that many citizens consume. Since it is hard to have an understanding of the various components of fast foods, one should prepare meals in their homes to avoid consuming foods that will in the long term have a negative impact to their health.
