Author’s Background William Faulkner who received the Noble Prize for Literature in 1950 is universally acclaimed as one of the finest writers to have ever held the pen and put down works of fiction on paper. Using various literary devices such as symbolism, storytelling, stream of consciousness, the omniscient and limited points of view he is able to retell some gothic stories in moving ways that have been of great impact for ages across the whole world of literature. At the speech given as he received the Prize he said "…the young man or women writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat," Faulkner in Daniel et al (1997: 723).

Much of the research done by people like author compares the themes as were used to comment on the Eco-social status of the whole of society during Faulkner’s time and what was the general effect of his writings.

The studies have delved deep and are quite exhaustive I the area. All of these are targeted at speaking of the moroseness of the whole situation (Fargnoli & Golay, 2009, p. Characters in a Rose for Emily On the side much of the happenings in the earlier times are all narrated in the following sections of the whole story. While one is from the North and the other from the South, their cultures would have never been very different. The son ultimately decided to grass on the father and then runs away from home. However, this does not last for long as he ultimately gives up and decides to tell on his father and warn Major de Spain on his plans and evil intentions to burn down his barn (Faulkner, 1979, p. There is also the great need four a sense of peace, safety and concord that Sartoris is constantly seeking. Having lived in Abner’s home all of his life, that entire he has felt is rivalries, hostilities and struggles in the clamor that characterised his own home. As he develops some varied ideas of what is right and wrong and what is acceptable or not, he starts seeking for tranquillity, bliss and joyfulness which he hopes to get away from home.

This was not to indicate that they were unable to produce pieces of art, but that they had a difficult connection with art and its production. Written during the great recession in 1929 A Rose for Emily is a great commentary for the postbellum culture in the South. The whole nation of the United States was headed towards a state of complete rot and destruction socially, fiscally, ethically and politically. The values and the ideals that the whole nations of the west had stood for were all brought into question, as it clearly seemed that they had all failed in upholding and maintaining the systems that they had set up to maintain the rule of government (Gale, n.

d, p. Thus being a Southern writer during the difficult times of transition and transformation, Faulkner was able to compellingly, albeit feasibly through much pain, express the whole world in his work of art. Anderson writing of Faulkner’s own family reveals that his grandfather J. T. Faulkner was a very wealthy man who enjoyed the fruits of various economic policies that were being brought to the front by various organisations at his time. He was a great public leader, was in politics for around 20 years, and was involved in a number of public projects. While the young man finds ways to run from his fateful legacy, the reader cannot tell of his ultimate end. Emily on the other hand only finds her escape through death.
