Federal Marriage Amendment of the United States Essay

It string fought against same-sex marriages which were becoming popular among some of the American people. It was presented to the US Congress which is composed of the Senate and the House of Representative. It is constitutionally mandatory for every amendment to be presented to Congress before it is adopted and ratified to become a law in the United States. The Federal Marriage Amendment was spearheaded by some Senators and members of the House of Representatives to totally prohibit same-sex marriages in the United States of America. Some states including Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, Connecticut, District of Columbia and New Hampshire had already legalized same-sex marriages and this prompted some leaders to stand firm against same-sex marriages and protect the institution of marriage (Corvino 65) Opponents of the amendment included Senator John Kerry, Representative Ron Paul, and Senator John McCain.

Same-sex instead encourages men to marry each other as well as women marrying their fellow women. This completely ruins the norms and the usual marriage which has been in existence for numerous decades and centuries. The institution of marriage was set and has been the best union as compared to same-sex marriage. When men marry each other and women marry their fellow women, the real meaning of marriage is undermined and absolutely ruined. Bearing that in mind, same-sex marriages should not have a place in our current society. Children will not be born and the population of people will decline. Marriages between females and males raise children who are psychologically contented unlike the adopted children in same-sex marriages. During the grown and development of children, they need a female mother and a male father.

They need a father whom the can consider as a protector and a mother whom they can fondly interact with. A child raised up in a homosexual family where both of his/her parents are males, he/she develops negative psychological issues such make it hard for a child to properly develop. A few rape cases are reported in the states prohibiting same-sex marriages. Besides, bestiality has become widespread in the states that have legalized same-sex marriages. Men are now turning to animals for their sexual satisfaction which they fail to get from their male partners. The worst of all, women and men in same-sex marriages are now opting to have sexual relations with their close relatives including their children (Koppelman 143). Same-sex male partners are turning to their adopted girls or even their sisters while same-sex female partners are looking for sexual satisfaction from their sons.

It also indicates that such marriages are created and blessed by God. Christians believe that God was the pioneer of marriage when He created Adam who was male and Eve who was a female and brought them together to live as a husband and wife. The bible also categorized same-sex as one of the fatal sins which Christians should avoid. Besides, the Koran which is the Muslims’ Holy Book has vehemently prohibited same-sex marriages. I that view, the Federal Marriage Amendment will be a good tool to prevent violation of God’s will. Institutions such as hospitals, courts insurances rights and educational institutions would be changed to suit the needs of same-sex marriage partners. This would very expensive and time-consuming for both the Federal and States government. The extra cost would also be incurred in educating stakeholders to understand and respect the rights of same-sex marriages (Calabresi 126).

The divorce laws would have to be changed which require a lot of time and technicality. Researches have proven that men are more violent than women. Through proper education, those who perpetrate same-sex marriages will be helped to churn from this behavior and start living a favorable life. People will help freely interact and mingle with each other in unity. In a nutshell, the Federal Marriage Amendment will be of the best interest to the American society. The institution of marriage which defines marriage as the union between a mature male and a mature female will be upheld.
