Therefore, she expressed the idea that individual and real-life situation can undesirably affect own contribution in a group discussion. Whenever the member recalls of what took place in his or her life, they feel a lot of agonies disclosing what is evidently in their thoughts. Jerry and Marianne Corey as the group leaders used the shifting focus method to develop her focus. They moved the discussion to other places and changed the topics to make Jyl forget about the previous experience. For the group member, they were requested to observe the principles, ethical values, culture and show respect to other peoples’ ideas, views and opinions when speaking. Whenever they went past the limits, the leaders could cut off the dialogs and either shift the focus to another topic or give them a short break before coming in with another issue.

Making use of questions was another way which was primarily used by the leaders in the course of the discussion. They opened dialogs with some questions like "Is there anyone here you can relate to?" and "Who in here you are aware of at the moment?" This was a method applied to expand the imaginations on focus and making the members feel free. The skill was applied hand in hand with clarifications and confrontations. The leaders could ask various questions to a specific member based on his or her idea for the point to be evidently understood. Gently words were used like “I have noticed that you have been silent for the most of the discussion.
