High Poverty Rates In Developing Nations

B. Poverty has been cited as a global social issue by various social scientist and economists. The developing nations are however the most affected nations by the problem of poverty (Ravallion, Watt &Walle, 1991). Influencing this are the high poverty rates recorded annually for these regions. As a result of this, it becomes basic to understand the reality of the situation. In a way, this means that with the existence and persistence of poverty in developing nation, certain people are prone to being more affected. These persons are collectively referred to as social groups as they can become identified as a particular group. In the existence of poverty, children suffer sociological impacts of hunger and diseases as their immune system cannot withstand hours not to talk of days without food (Gordon, 2003).

Along with this, the dawn of poverty means lack of education because there is no financial aid to support the desired education it is challenging for one to learn in the absence of basic needs. Women are also forced to work under dangerous circumstances of rape and sexual harassment which exposes them to high risks of HIV/AIDS to make ends meet for their children. Based on the historical background, the hypotheses to be tested in the study will be: “Adoption of past colonial leadership characterized by corruption and inequality in leadership is the reason for the high poverty rates in developing the nation in spite their gain of independence. ” Hypothesis The study will test whether its only in the developing countries that people live in abject poverty.
