The earlier drug protection programs were mainly government sponsored and were fewer in number than currently. The main services under the earlier drug protection programs were guidance and counseling which were perceived as the core services that can significantly help in the fight against the drug action (Larimer, 2013). In the earlier 19th century, the general impact of the substance abuse programs was reviewed and a new paradigm was established which now demanded to teach the enrolled individuals about other social activities they can engage in to avoid being caught up in the menace of the drug abuse. The drug abuse prevention programs now included education on various frontiers. In the mid 19th century, the number of private organizations that were offering educational and drug prevention programs rose significantly.

Secondly, mental and physical health consultation practices were prevalent as the programs majorly at improving the health and physical status of the enrolled individuals. According to champion et al (2013), the reasoning behind that practice was that anybody who enrolled into the educational and drug protection program had either a healthy or physical problem which is not usually the case. As such, they designed the health and physical consultation practices to heal the healthy and physical conditions that the enrolled individuals were perceived to be suffering from. Thirdly, virtually all the traditional programs had on-site psychiatrists who were to establish the psycho status of the enrolled individuals. The psychiatrist was required to provide to the authorities a psycho status report. the practices largely forego the need to educate the individuals about various of fighting drug abuse addiction and even other social functions that they can engage in to avoid being engaged in drug abuse.

Innovations and Use of Technology The advances in technology have brought on board new frontiers for the educational and drug prevention programs. Innovation has been used to encourage schooling which serves as a way out of drug abuse. Climate intervention frameworks have been introduced to encourage positive protection outcomes. The Climate intervention frameworks provide useful lessons about the social influence theories and how they can contribute to drug abuse (Posavac, 2015). Often than not, the data collected is about behavior and experiences of the individuals who have enrolled in the program which is the measured against the natural environment settings data (Posavac, 2013). The data is analyzed on grounds of the probable causes and effects which establishes the most suitable measures to be adopted in the program so that its positive influences are reinforced.

Strengths and Weaknesses Strengths The educational and drug prevention programs have a number of strengths that largely contributed to their success. To start with, the programs are headed by well trained and experienced individuals with expertise in various fields. The experience and expertise of these leaders facilitate well formulation of informed and well-drafted policies that bring forth the desired results for the individuals enrolled. Conclusion It is significant that the educational and drug protection program is crucial in the global fight against drug abuse. The programs have evolved from the traditional practices of just concentrating screening, assessment, and medication to the contemporary setting of including educational programs. Innovation and technology have not promoted the effectiveness of the educational and drug protection program but also chiefly facilitated analysis of data.
