The second part, logy, means learning and science (Kumari & Chandio, 2018) Therefore, linguistically technology means the tools and the methods that human beings have developed in order help solve their practical problems. Technological advancement is something that has been happening since human beings were created. It incorporates inventions by human beings in an effort to make work easier and make their lives better. It stems back from invention of knifes and spears out of sticks and rocks to aid in the hunting of animals and gathering of fruits. However, it is important to note that the technological advancement has been exceptionally rapid in both the 20th and the 21st centuries. Most scholars argue that it has led to increased stress levels, illnesses, isolation and in fact changed the meaning of the word “social”.

Therefore, it is right to argue that technological advancement has both positive and negative impacts to the society. Learning the negative effects can greatly help in finding some ways to minimize them and maximize on the positive ones. Technology as a word seems to lighten up faces of many individuals, especially the millennials. Life, entertainment and fashion has really improved over the last decades due to the rapid advancement of technology. For instance, the TV technology has greatly impacted the media habits of the society. It has also affected the behavior and the attitudes between members of a social group, such as a family. Further, Boyd (2014) argued that although technology has great positive impacts on the society, teenagers tend to use internet and social networking platforms in negative acts more than the positive acts.

Thus, there is need to identify some of the harms that the internet, television and other forms of technology have had on the society. By identifying the specific ways technology impacts the teens and the other section of the society, it would thus be able to get to understand how to best minimize those harms. Use of emails and social media platforms for example Facebook and WhatsApp enable sharing of information and other educational material within the students hence boosting their knowledge. Texts nowadays can be combined with videos and audios and students will have a chance to interact in real-time via discussion groups and e-mails. Such technological improvements have also helped enhance education access for most members of the society who need upskilling and retraining and are unable to attend the traditional courses.

This could be due to family and work commitments. Great skills from educated citizens are essential in ensuring that the society grows (Lau, 2017). Electronic media like televisions, the internet and the social media have really boosted how people pass information from one person to another. Simply stated, technology has made information accessible. In many nations, televisions and radios are used as tools of mass communication. The society thus uses these two technologies to air their concerns to the government and those in authorities. Also, during elections, political leaders use these two platforms to communicate to the people how they will solve their problems. On this same note, many manufacturing as well as processing industries are being set up as new technologies are being developed. These industries release harmful gases and chemicals which have brought about issues such as global warming.

There is need to adopt green technologies which can help counter these emissions which may affect the future generations. Technology has also led to social isolation. Social isolation occurs where there is lack of contact among other individuals such as at the workplace, at school, with friends or in social activities. Gaming has really affected children as well as their socializing skills. They waste most of their times playing games on their mobile phones and computers, rather than in researching useful and educative material on the internet. In addition, most of these games are so real that killing and other horrible scenes are shown in videos games. Studies have suggested that children and teens who play such brutal games and watch violent videos tend to become extremely aggressive and violent (Boyd, 2014).

In this regard, parents need to monitor and advise their children not to watch violent games or other misleading material such as phonographic videos. Parents need to instill some social code of conduct for their children and try to advise them on how to maximize on internet use by reading educative materials rather than watching phonography and violent videos. Further research on how to control the negative impacts of technological enhancement on the society need to be championed for.
