Juvenile Incarceration essay
One of my friends, Brandon, suggested that we pick up clods and stones and hurl them nosily at people porches and run when somebody looked. As the kid as we were, this sounded fun. This went on well until John, picked up a bigger rock and hurled it towards a porch and smashed a 7-foot etched door glass panel which came down with a noisy cascade of glittering shards. Though we tried to run, we didn’t get far before the police caught up with us and took us to a police station. Even though we were oblivious of the consequences of our actions we were questioned and grilled by the police as they tried to establish who amongst us had heaved the stone.
The decision to carjack the car upon realizing the driver was an elderly woman who was sleeping on the driver’s seat. As you would expect, the woman calls the police who chase after the teen who thought it was fun to have a police chase after them. It is a beautiful game to play. However, the police finally caught up with them, arraigned in court and charged with carjacking, driving without a license and roughing up an elderly woman. The judge finds them guilty and sentences Brian and his friends to 18 months in juvenile detention. Although remembering this makes me feel ashamed I feel obliged to use this story to support my argument. When I was 14 years old, I lived in Georgetown, Washington DC with my family.
