At the age of five, Khalid and his family relocated to Iran since his father was working for the Afghanistan Embassy. Six years later, his family moved to France, Paris, after his father got a job in France (Agnello, et al 96). However, after the PDPA attained power, it was hard for Khalid family to get back to Afghanistan. Thus, the family obtained political asylum in America and settled in California. Education Hosseini graduated from high school in 1984 and later joined Santa Clara University graduating with a Bachelors in Biology. Additionally, the movie had a film adaptation that was released in 2007. The second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns (2007), like the first focus on the radical shifts in Afghanistan’s social and political environment.

This is showed through two major female characters, Laila and Mariam, who are married to one husband. The third novel, And the Mountains Echoed (2013) which focuses on the broken relationship between a sister and brother due to their family’s poor circumstances. This novel document the decades after the siblings diverged in 1950 in Afghanistan. Influences The first influence on Khaled was the Afghanistan culture of oral storytelling. Khalid grew up in a society which uses oral storytelling for different purposes in the society. In one of his intervenes, Khaled admits that his grandmother story’s, as well as the oral storytelling culture, was the first influences in his. He said that he matured with a storytelling instinct and that anytime he begins to write, his major setting is finding a story and then narrating it.

Additionally, Khaled was also influenced by the classic Persian literature mainly the Shahnameh. He interrogates the impact of war on social structures. Additionally, war is the major theme in A Thousand Splendid Sun. Hosseini narrates about various conflicts and war happening like the Russian war, the Afghanistan war against each other. Family and Relationships Family ties are also another major theme Hosseini’s novel. From his novels, he does value family despite the different circumstance of family members. He narrates how Mariam and Laila manage to overcome different obstacles in their life. Likewise, The Kite Runner focuses on the theme of masculinity and men. Kite Runner has fewer women and more men (Raj 6). Notably, the only women are the mother in law and the protagonist wife.

The novel proves that man tends to be defined by his masculinity. He uses this to show that the City is sinking and that the level of war is probably getting worse. Style Hosseini’s writing style often aims at creating the real image and feeling characters have or understanding what they are going through. A major writing style used by Hosseini is the cinematic writing style. In The Kite Runner, Hosseini vividly describes experiences, actions and communications through descriptions that tend to mimic camera cuts and movements. This writing style makes it easy for the readers to understand and find the novel interesting since he can perceive the real image and movements. Most of his novels are set in Kabul Afghanistan.
