Leading Causes of Gender Inequality
In gender inequality, the feminist's theoretical approach points out those female places, conditions are not only differentiated but are also not on the same level that is they are unequal. The theory of gender oppression comes with an explanation that female gender is not only different, unequal but they are frequently oppressed. According to structural oppression, it points out that the abuse of female gender is fueled by inequality that exists due to Capitalism, racism and patriarchy. Gender inequality has been perceived to arise from the gap manifested in the socially set gender roles with the incorporation of the biological aspect by chromosomes, hormonal and brain structure differences. The systems that define gender are known to be dichotomous and hierarchical meaning that binary gender systems. These mechanisms contribute significantly to gender inequality and inequity exploration and exploitation.
Based on the symbolic Interactionism theory asserts that people have a tendency to interact based with things that ascribed to them and the real definition of those things arise from how we communicate with others and the society in general (Matsueda et al. The interaction within the community has made human to believe that women are only fit for subordinate roles such as nurturing and other house chores. Since time immemorial, the issue of gender inequality has been a contagious subject that has eluded us for far too long. The norm has always been that men get the approval as a dominant gender over women who have always been regarded as the minority. Gender inequality still exists as I have witnessed instances it has happened to my friends. The theory of materialists defines gender inequality to be a result of how women and men are structured by the economic status of the society (Ridgeway 418).
They associate the role of women as a wife and a mother with lesser value as compared to that of men which makes it hard for women to get opportunities in the position of influence such as politics and other executive positions. Though we deny its existence, Gender inequality still stares at us. Such is the situation with us which occurs in our everyday operations and behavior. However since the enactment of the 1970 equal pay act and women perception in the society has improved tremendously (Blau 15). Women have been able to get working opportunities in positions of influence. Though this strides there still is work to be done to ensure that gender inequality is completely a thing of the past. This is because as the society gets modernized the stereotyping of women also gets reinvented and is seen as just normal.
This can be witnessed in many areas such as in music and ideography where mostly women are shown naked and also used in photographic videos. We can also use our celebrities and do promotional messages that can reach everyone. celebrities are role models of so many people and therefore with their influence, we can use them to pass the message of equality to the large community (Besse 80). This initiative may take a while to bring forth fruits but at the end of the day, we need to end gender inequality. Culture plays a critical role in the subordination of women in society due to the existence of power implications and methods of controls that are shaped by culture. These mechanisms contribute significantly to gender inequality and inequity exploration and exploitation. How about the education sector which is a basic of the culture that wholly contributes to impacting perception on how people view themselves? The education system main weakness is ignoring the fact that most of the children that are present themselves for learning have economic inequalities depicted from their backyards.
Conflict theory by Karl Max describes that the main reason for uneven in social status is due to a lack of equality in the distribution of the resources, status, and power (Jayachandran 70). Under these circumstances, power can be defined regarding the influence of funds, politics and other institutions that constitute the society as well social state about others. The same applies in the education sector where boys are seen as more intelligent and hardworking than their girls' counterparts hence given more opportunity to turn adventurous. This uneven distribution of resources thus contributes to girls being assigned subordinate chores such as housekeeping, baby raring and so on. OUP Catalogue (2016):12-17 Jayachandran, Seema.
