My college experience

This is what really inspired me to move from Pakistani to the United States of America. This happened in 2013 with the sole reason of seeking a new academic challenge and better education. I must confess that what convicted me the most into enrolling for the college of Staten Island was the completely opposite culture in terms of education and language. Also, none of my family members had acquired higher education including my parents and siblings hence I had to be the light at the end of the tunnel for them by being aggressive enough and ambitious to pursue the education and inspire my family members and others into seeing the benefits of education and also being a source of blessings to them.

During my assessment and trying to identify the college that I would join, I had different options which I could choose from. One of the main obstacles that really took a heavy toll on me was learning a new language from scratch. All the proceedings in school were conducted in English, including classwork. So I had to be quick and knowledgeable enough to be able to grasp the new language. I organized for special classes were I learnt English before the semester had begun. I made sure that I had this special classes some 6 months before the new semester began. Campus requires a lot of financial backing whereas I had to depend on my parents’ upkeep for survival. This gave me tremendous difficulties that I had to cope up with.

Also, adjusting to the new climate was difficult given that the semester began during the winter period which was extremely cold. I was able to adjust to all these challenges in the end. Classes were fun as the system paid emphasis on learner oriented learning rather than teacher oriented learning and this gave us students the ability to learn and direct our own learning. Research-academic analysis in the past 2-3 years in college CSI has been a centre of excellence in academics over the years. A lot has transpired in the past 2-3 years in the school in terms of matters of academic importance such as the number of school dropouts, immigrants in the school and the job market in as far as the school’s graduands are concerned.

Information about the college is rife on the internet and other relevant sources as to how the students who graduate fresh from the college fair on in the job market. As a matter of fact, given the unique system offered by the college in terms of providing necessary academic and life skills to the students, the students experience a lot of advantages in the job market. Most of the colleges emphasize on educating a student to becoming an academic icon whereas other important aspects of life are not attended to. The measures put in place ensured that the dropouts witnessed were as a result of unavoidable circumstances like sickness among others. Another measure that was put in place to ensure that the number of dropouts decreased is by giving incentives to the students by encouraging them to complete their studies and providing stipends towards the end of completing their respective courses.

This has ensured that the students get properly motivated and see the need to complete their studies. Useful links between the government and the college ensured that the students were guaranteed absorption into the job market once they complete school and this has given them that much needed push to see through tough times in school and complete studying. Immigrants in the school have also increased as a result of several factors that have encouraged foreigners to feel comfortable in the place. They put more emphasis on money acquisition and become greedy for that matter instead of putting more attention on quality delivery before earning the money. This has been believed by most employers who have incorporated ways to inquire about these during interviews.
