My position on Abortion

As noted above, the act of abortion continues to be one of the hottest debates in the medical world today as various individuals, organizations, groups and governments hold divergent opinions over its legality and morality. In my view, therefore, abortion is murder in festooned terms. The United States is among the countries that have legalized abortion with several states having approved of the practice while they criminalize murder. My question, therefore, is why do we seek advocate for selective justice? Why do we justice for convenience? The unborn child has the right to live. We cannot live in a world where determination of one’s is based on the mother’s choice. Evidently, lack of alternatives for abortion is a baseless argument. Those who support its procurement, on the one hand, purvey various reasons why they think abortion should be legalized.

For instance, advocates of abortion in the UK refer to the Abortion Act of 1967 that allowed abortion to be conducted, under some circumstances, provided the pregnancy had not gone beyond 168 days (Furedi, 2016, p. Such limitations include but not limited to; if procurement of abortion would be the best option in the case a mother’s life is in danger and if there is a substantial proof that the unborn baby suffers grave physical or mental disability. However, this argument is sophistic since it fails to recognize the mentally and physically disabled as persons. Violence cannot restrain violence. A rapist momentarily denies the victim their life (McCuen, 1997, p. However, an abortionist permanently robs the unborn baby of its entire life. Moreover, abortion may lead to the loss of both the mother’s and child’s lives but adoption leads not into any loss of life.

Adoption is legalized in the US. In this regard they argue that if a woman engages in sex willingly and with full knowledge of the consequences and consequently conceives, then she is morally bounded to the responsibility of giving birth to the child. However, this argument is limited to a case where a woman is subjected to a forceful sexual relationship whose consequence is unwanted pregnancy. As for those who cherish philosophical arguments, an unborn baby is a ‘person’ and should be bequeathed the same rights and treatment that any of us deserves. In light of this argument, a foetus must be allowed to have a future and gather experiences as it progresses through life. It is worth noting that abortion continues to gain wide acceptance in most parts of the world.

This clearly depicts the value of the unborn child. In conclusion, therefore, abortion is an excuse to denying unborn being the right to life and to peaceably enjoy their future. There are numerous alternatives to abortion, for example, birth control and adoption, as has been discussed above. Legitimizing abortion is morally wrong and we cannot afford to legalize crimes based on the currency of our emotional hysteria. Why abort when the child can be adopted?
