Introduction Project management is the run-through process of introducing, planning, executing and finally terminating a select work of an organized team with the mind of achieving a proposed goal whereby the goals are measured using certain success criteria over a specified range of time. This restrains the projects to operate under set conditions while retaining the ability to achieve all the set project goals. The agile project management and the project body of knowledge (PMBOK) are both bodies of knowledge common in project management. This paper is a close analysis of both agile project management and project management body of knowledge, their similarities, differences, and advantages of each when it comes to project managing. Agile project management Agile project management is a common methodology approach introduced the 90’ and it is used in project management.

It also has the assurance of correct solutions and time management since it also demands a high degree of professionalism (Kerzner et al, 2017. ) It has been presumed that an agile approach in project management does not need any formal documentation. To a point, the agile approach requires more of working solutions over a wide-range documentation, but it has to be documented to a certain degree but the coverage of roles brings along collaboration which covers for much of the paperwork that customary silo’ed teams use in project management. It is also assumed that when using the agile methodology in a project lifecycle, it is possible to change any of its elements at any time. Well, it is possible to change the previously agreed elements but these changes of priorities have to be done with an ample degree of reason established by the flexible change management control (Cobb et al, 2011.

Together with the lack of proper documentation, it disallows new employees the ability to catch up with the other workers as there lacks the documentation for revision. This approach also disallows team members from focusing on other projects due to the constant revision of the current project. This thus allows focus on one project which is a positive phenomenon but on its negativity, these projects are usually long and boring, which reduces the credibility and effectiveness of the project success. There are also a series of byzantine sales cycles in the agile approach to project management. This is due to the inability of the management in realizing the exact amount the project took to run. Many people also have the misconception that PMBOK is a methodology of project management.

This is awfully wrong. Project Management Body of Knowledge is just a structure that is utilized in project management. It informs the project managers on the steps to take and how to do them as well as what should be avoided for the project to end in success (Gurjar 2017. ) Advantages of Project body of knowledge (PMBOK) PMBOK has been recognized to increase the accuracy of the project management process. However, it is stained by some limitations that pose as disadvantages as per the PMBOK. When not closely monitored, the PMBOK framework can lead to high costs of production especially in the case of small-scale projects. According to the nature of PMBOK, whereby it is designed to be applicable in all industries, it is sometimes insufficient in some industries and projects that have frequent an constant changes over a short segment of time.

This is due to the fact that the requirements of the project are sometimes not clear. This framework of guidelines fails to address the iterative state that is common in the major work breakdown such as planning, monitoring and controlling. With several disadvantages and advantages on these two profound approaches, PMBOK stands as one of the world’s most popular frameworks used in project management. This, however, does not entirely discredit the agile approach as it’s relevant to the nature of the project. This means that with a small scale project designed to change with customer preferences, then the agile methodology approach is the best for this case scenario. Work Cited John Wiley & Sons, 2017.
