Psychology in Everyday Life e-portfolio
Document Type:Coursework
Subject Area:Psychology
Basically, psychology is referred to as a study of behavior and mind of people and animals in different environments. Planning Planning entails coming up with long terms objectives that will determine one’s employability in his/her future career. As an undergraduate student, I had to make a decision in my second year of Bachelor’s study. I had a passion for psychology which was triggered by increased cases of drug addiction and family breaks ups, as a result, increased cases of deviance among children. Such deviance cases made most people blame each other based on genetic makeup. To understand the psychosocial development theory. Sometimes I could not understand why some individual, especially children developed different attitudes towards life and some other people in the community. Emotions portrayed by people vary from one person to another depending on their level of attachment.
To determine the relationship between psychology and everyday health. This involved determining different challenges of healthy living, studying different concepts that related to physical health and psychology as well as putting them in everyday life. Positive Experiences Setting goals The skill of setting goals entailed different activities that helped in focusing my attention on the scope area, something that increased my effort, persistence as well as the ability to solve different challenges. Different pieces of evidence that support a firm causal relationship between the quality of life and goal setting in various domains. Also, the process of goal setting does not necessarily need a lot of time planning or excessive documentation but the most important thing is to make sure the goals are controllable, concrete, flexible and measurable. In my case, the goals I had set were very simple and subject to adjustment when necessary.
It did not take me much time to plan neither did I use a lot of documentation because I already knew my specific areas of interest. Interpersonal competence It was during the undergraduate studies that I learned about enhancing the interpersonal relationship that can help in improving the quality of life. The most important interpersonal relationship one can develop is between connections with family members. Based on different cases I used to handle during my undergraduate, the most stressful experiences in life involve loss of a family member, divorce or even stressful marriage because life is made up of at least two people who have casually and mutually behaviors, thoughts and feelings. In this regard, I realized why couples tend to differ sometimes based on their behaviors and feelings towards some issues in life, bringing in the idea of a behavioral perspective.
It is difficult and stressful to change one’s behavior but the standard of interpersonal relationship is mostly based on congruent of the set goals by the people involved as well as the tone of their emotional relationship. It is termed as a weakness on the perspective because it comes up with different theories concerning disorders as well as generalizing them to be applicable to all individuals. For instance, the Adaptation Syndrome suggests that all individual responses to stress in the manner but it does not consider some individuals have access to more support compared to the rest. Biological perspective involves an experiment that cannot be carried out using human because it is against ethics. The importance of using mice as a specimen is that it helps in illustrating the genetic background of aggression and the way it can be inherited from one generation to another.
However, the behavior of mice can be observed in a laboratory but it is difficult to observe human behavior in such an environment. Back in University, I was also motivated by seeing how my colleagues appreciated my efforts to help them, though some were not pleased with what I was doing. During by the third year of study, I was recognized by the University Council as the best student in the Psychology department and felt much motivated to pursue my dream. Prospective View: Future Goals related to the academic and professional development Learning is a continuous process and having completed my undergraduate studies is not the end of the journey. Considering different mental problems affecting our society today, I am planning to study different causes of such mental problems through conducting research instead of just focusing on their treatment.
This will help me develop professionally as well as acquire knowledge concerning how such problems are propagated from one individual to another. Applicable strategies Advancing academically and career-wise calls for a lot of commitment and intensive research that is coupled with broad consultation. In my case, things will not be complicated because I chose to stick to my line of profession, meaning that most of the skills I will need in this level are directly applicable. The process will involve seeking admission from an academic institution that specializes in my proposed area of study as well as partnering with professional who will serve as role models. I will engage myself with research institutions that will train me on how to collect, store and analyze data. Considering that I will not go for a study leave, I will make sure that all my classes are scheduled in the evening because I don’t prefer online classes.
