Role of Intertextuality

Intertextuality is a device that relates different texts used in literary work. The fundamental role of intertextuality is to effectively interpret the literature material by revealing how the author employed other related works to enhance sufficiency of their works. Besides, efficiently used intertextuality reveals how different texts are used in the literature in order to give clear meaning of the author’s purpose. Drawing references from my selected works, I will discuss some of the significance usage of intertextuality to bring improved meaning to the author’s work. Frome the novel of Cosmopolis by Don Dell, it is evident of how the author has effectively utilised the role of intertextuality for relevance of his work. The reader is able to easily interpret the recent works by relating with the past works.

The relevant relation of the roles of intertextuality in this novel will boast the reader’s interests to the work. The concept of sexuality and the related matters is an issue in the society. The female gender has been taken as a weak person in the society. The impact of weak value accrued to the female gender is discrimination on the roles accorded to gender. To agree with author’s significant title, this kind of violence is just senseless. It is ironical to be heard of the ill-treatment of the women by the males. In many cases, the male gender is narrated of having evil notions against the personality of the females, making them to exploit the woman rights. Some recorded cases of violation of woman rights revolve around sexuality and related matters.

It is narrated of cases in which the women were denied their rights of making choices on sexually related matters. Womack significantly uses the example of this girl from poor family to expose on how the women are neglected in the society. In Cosmopolis, the exposed theme is violation of human rights on sexuality. Many cases of forced sexual behaviours prevail in the community. Violation of women rights is the day to day practised vice in the society. The author narrates the dramatic practices of Parker as a show of how men have devalued the women’s rights. By this continuation of flow of themes, a better reliability of the narrators is created. Reliable narration permits the easy understanding and hence appropriate interpretation of the literature work. Similar case of continuation of themes setting has been evident in Jack Womack’s narration in the novel entitled Random Acts of Senseless violence.

In his prologue, he declares that the difference between the current narration and the previous narration was that the theme of rotting was becoming intense. The closure of a narrative is the conclusion impact of the narrated work. Most authors employ active literary devices in their literature work. Their aim towards this is meant to attract the attention of their potential audiences. There are some reasons that make the authors aim at attracting the attention of their potential audiences. One of the main reason is to create a conducive environment for addressing the subject matter effectively.
