Ironically, incidences of school shootings are still being reported up to date and instead the vice is getting rampant day by day. This paper focuses on reviewing the incidents of school shootings, their effects on the society and possible solutions on how the incident can be curbed. School shootings are a vice that is gradually developing into a habit. The cases of school shootings have recently increased due to the rise in numbers of students who possess firearms. One of the memorable cases is that of Columbine high school that happened on April 20, 1999(Leary et al. Harris and Klebold had four guns, three long guns and a TEC-DC9 semi-automatic pistol. The two students were 17-year-olds and therefore selling to them a firearm at that age was against the law. The killings in combine High School did not occur in isolation; it was just one of the rampant cases of school shootings.

Ever since then the cases have increased with the increase in the production of firearms and an increase in illegal acquisition of the same. We cannot cling to the past occurrences, but instead, we should learn from them. The public appeals that a solution must be derived to protect the young children that are innocently involved in this violent attacks. It, therefore, raises a great question of concern; can we prevent future school shootings? And if yes, what are the measure that should be put in place? This paper, therefore, seeks to examine some of the solutions that have frequented media discussions and political interventions.

Some of the solutions include; Getting more control of the video gaming industry. Access control of school premises This involves conducting a thorough screening of individuals who get into the school compound. It can be done by requiring identification badges for students and other staff members, conducting fingerprint checks, and the use of advanced technology in screening for weapons and other ammunition. All of these strategies are aimed at allowing those who have a legitimate purpose to be in the school compound while restricting the entry of those not associated with school functions. Gun control Imposing restrictions on access of guns has been a major issue of concern both by the public domain and the government. There has been an increase in cases of illegal acquisitions of firearms over the past few years.

The Congress has a major impact on the regulation of the acquisition of guns. They are involved in making policies that enhance the gun production, gun access and distribution of guns. After the occurrence of a school shooting the Congress performs its familiar ritual; tweeting and emailing condolences to the affected victims and their families. Usually, this always marks the end of the reaction of the congress people, however, on the recent years, there has been much pressure from the public on the Congress in regards to coming up with lasting solutions on school shootings.
